Rodney M. Deselms

Funeral Services for Rodney M. Deselms will be conducted from the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege, Nebraska on Friday, November 4, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Dale Lambert, officiating. Interment will be in the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege, following the services. Rodney M. Deselms, 83 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Friday, October 28, 2011 at Bryan LGH- East Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska. Rodney was born February 22, 1928 in Edison, Nebraska, the eldest of two sons born to Wilmer A. and Zona B. (Huffine) Deselms. Rodney received his primary education at District #7 in Furnas County, Nebraska, attended Edison High School for one year, and then graduated Long Island High School in Long Island, Kansas with the class of 1945.

On November 7, 1948, Rodney was united in marriage to Erma I. Peterson and to this union three daughters and one son were born: Ronda, Dennis, Judy and Debra. The couple made their home in Selah, Washington for a year, before returning back to Nebraska and residing at Edison for seven years. The family then moved to Holdrege, residing there all the rest of their married life except for two years living in Lexington, Nebraska.

Rodney was employed for 41 years in the Lumber Yard business, where he was the Assistant Manager. Rodney and Erma also owned and operated the AA Motel in Holdrege for several years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege, and a past member of the Lions Club and the Elks Lodge.

Rodney loved camping with his wife, owning their own fifth-wheel which they pulled to many camping club events through the Traildusters Club for 18 years. They were also members of the NCHA Camping Association and the Second-Chance Camping Club which was part of Good Sam Club. In recent years, they wintered in the San Juan, area of Texas. Besides camping Rodney had a passion for woodworking. Rodney leaves to mourn his passing four children: Ronda Claar and her husband, Steve of Torrington, Connecticut, Dennis Deselms of Marysville, Washington, Judy Anderson of Kearney, Nebraska and Debra Giovanetti and her husband, Jeff of Greenville, South Carolina; ten grandchildren: Shawn Deselms, Jeffrey Claar and his wife, Kathy, Dustin Morris, Danielle Shatto, Patrick Claar, Kayla Anderson, Kassi Anderson, Tiffini and Elicia Giovanetti, and David Anderson; four great-grandchildren: Matthew and Jacob Deselms and Brianna and Caylin Shatto; step great-grandson, Andrew Ballain; brother, Dean B. Deselms and his wife, Linda of Costa Rica; sister-in-law, Lucille Dixon of Stanwood, Washington; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Besides his parents, Rodney was preceded in death by his wife, Erma in 2010; three brothers-in-law: Richard and Sidney Peterson and Jim Dixon and sister-in-law, Doris Alvord and her husband, Richard. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 3, 2011 at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege from 1:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
