Evald E Abramson

Funeral Services for Evald E. Abramson will be conducted from the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege, Nebraska on Saturday, June, 9, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Dale Lambert officiating. Interment will be in the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege.

Evald E. Abramson, 83 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at his home in Holdrege after a lengthy battle with cancer. Evald Eugene Abramson was born January 12, 1929 in Holdrege to Gustav Malcolm and Julia M. (Johnson) Abramson. He was the youngest of six sons. He graduated from Holdrege High School in 1947.

At a young age he began working in his father’s business, Abramson Radio Shop, where he learned all aspects of the appliance business. In 1965, he purchased the business from his father and the name was changed to Abramson Appliance & TV. Evald and his wife, Mary Lou, owned and operated the business together for 26 years until they sold it to their oldest son, Mark, in 1991. Evald continued to be an active presence in the store because he enjoyed his customers. He was proud of the fact that the family business is considered the third oldest business in Holdrege in terms of continuous operation.

He married Mary Lou Bocock on September 26, 1948 at the Methodist Church in Holdrege. They were married 63 years and were the parents of three children: Mark Ronald, Mary Katherine “Kay” and Thomas Joel. Evald was a devoted husband and father. He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren participate in their many school and sporting activities, band and piano concerts and dance recitals. Every summer weekend was spent at the family cabin at Johnson Lake. His greatest passion was hunting from his goose blind at the Platte River with his faithful Labrador dog.

Evald was a member of the Holdrege Volunteer Fire Department for 37 years, serving several years as Assistant Fire Chief, a 15-year member of the Holdrege Emergency Unit and a member of the Holdrege Gun Club. He was a member of the Methodist Church for 57 years and served on the Administrative Board and various committees.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Lowell Abramson and his wife, Doris, Maurice Abramson and his wife, Elaine, Ronald Abramson and his wife, Frances, James Abramson and his wife, Alice, and Julius Abramson in infancy; daughter-in-law, Paula Abramson; mother-in-law, Irene Bocock; and father-in-law, Bruce Bocock.

Evald is survived by his loving wife, Mary Lou; two sons: Mark Abramson of Holdrege, Tom Abramson of Gothenburg; one daughter, Kay Exstrom and her husband, Bryce of Fremont, Nebraska; grandchildren: Beth Abramson of Elkhorn, Nebraska, Rebeka Abramson of Holdrege, Katelyn Exstrom of Lincoln, Nebraska, Ashley Abramson, Aaron Abramson and Alexandra Abramson all of Lincoln; one great-granddaughter, Mia Abramson of Elkhorn; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 8, 2012 from 1:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.

A memorial has been established in his memory and will be designated at a later date.

Expressions of caring and kindness can be sent to the family at www.nelsonbauerfh.com
