Memorial services for LaVern M. Seeman will be held on Friday, August 10, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hope Lutheran Church in rural Smithfield, Nebraska with Pastor Tim Glendening officiating. Inurnment will be held following the services at Hope Lutheran Cemetery in rural Gosper County, Nebraska.
LaVern Martin Seeman, 89 years of age, of Alma, Nebraska, passed away on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at the Colonial Villa Good Samaritan Center in Alma. He was born on September 3, 1922 in rural Gosper County near Smithfield, Nebraska, the eldest of two children born to Martin Johannes Seemann and Martha Helena (Wortman) Seemann.
He was baptized on October 1, 1922 and confirmed on June 21, 1936 at the Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church of rural Smithfield. He received his education from a rural school in Gosper County. He was a member of Saint John’s Lutheran Church in Eustis, and later transferred his membership to Peace Lutheran Church in Alma.
LaVern was united in marriage to Willamene LaFern Rawson on November 25, 1943 at Huntley, Nebraska, and to this union five children were born: Rosa Leta, Marlin LaVern, Barbara Jean, Yvonne Marie, and Arlen Wayne. LaVern and Willamene farmed in the Bertrand, Eustis and Ragan areas. They lived and worked in Harlan County, northeast of Alma, since 1964. The couple celebrated their 57th Wedding Anniversary prior to her passing in 2001.
His love of the outdoors was evident by the many hours spent farming and caring for his livestock. He enjoyed attending many of the activities of his children and grandchildren including: scouting, football, volleyball and FFA events.
Besides his parents and wife, Willamene, LaVern was preceded in death by a little brother, David Marlin Seemann in 1933, and an infant grandson.
He leaves to mourn his passing; his five children: Rosa Strain and her husband, Orville of Evergreen, Colorado, Marlin Seeman and his wife, Nancy of Aurora, Nebraska, Barbara Shaffer and her husband, Fran of Columbus, Nebraska, Yvonne Beins and her husband, Bruce of Republican City, Nebraska, and Arlen Seeman and his wife, Terri of Blue Hill, Nebraska; ten grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
A memorial has been established in his memory and will be designated at a later date.
