Funeral Services for Adrienne G. "DeDe" Durnal will be conducted from the Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Holdrege, Nebraska on Tuesday, December 19, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastors Kevin Lund and Murray Jones, officiating.

Adrienne Gay "DeDe" Durnal, 54 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska, passed away on Friday, December 15, 2006 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska following a long and courageous battle with cancer. Adrienne was born September 9, 1952 at Scottsbluff, Nebraska, the youngest of four daughters of Earl R. and Doris L. (Stratton) Smith. She was baptized as an infant in Scottsbluff and also professed her faith to her Lord in Holdrege being baptized again at the Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Holdrege. She received her education at Lake Alice Elementary School northeast of Scottsbluff and then graduated from Scottsbluff High School with the class of 1970. Following high school she was employed in various jobs at Scottsbluff. On January 17, 1976 she was united in marriage to Michael W. Durnal and to this union two children were born: Levi and Mariah. The family made their home on the family farm in the shadow of Chimney Rock near Bayard, Nebraska.

She then pursued higher education at the Nebraska Western College at Scottsbluff, where she received her Associates Degree of Science in 1987. In 1987 the family moved to Worden, Montana, where Mike was employed by the Western Sugar Co. and Adrienne focused her efforts on caring for her family and was also a freelance photographer for the Business Farmer Newspaper of Scottsbluff. They then moved to Ft. Morgan, Colorado in 1989 until February of 1996. She was employed as a physical therapy aide and also a teacher's assistance and secretary for the Ft. Morgan Public Schools. In 1996 the family relocated to Holdrege, where Adrienne was employed by the Nelson-Harris Funeral Home as an Administrative Assistant.

Adrienne was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Holdrege, where she was part of several bible study groups, active with Awanas, member of the P.E.O. Chapter S in Ft. Morgan; member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, member of the YMCA and the American Paint Horse Association.

She had a special place in her heart for animals, especially horses. From a young age until the time of her passing she loved spending time riding and training her horses. She loved spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren.

She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, Mike of Holdrege; one son, Levi Durnal of Omaha; one daughter, Mariah Durnal; two grandchildren: Matthew and Abbee all of Holdrege; her mother, Doris Smith of Scottsbluff; three sisters: Sharon L. Abner of Gering, Nebraska, Earlynn J. Lawrence of Alliance, Nebraska and Anita K. Rein and her husband, Gary of Chadron, Nebraska; mother-in-law, Barbara Durnal of Scottsbluff; sister-in-law, Rebecca Nelson of Minneapolis, Minnesota and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Earl R. Smith; two grandchildren: Alexander and Hayden; father-in-law, Wayne E. "Stub" Durnal and brother-in-law, Allen Lawrence.

Adrienne will lie in state at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege on Monday, December 18, 2006 from 1:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

A memorial has been established in her memory and suggested to the Trinity Evangelical Free Church.

Additional Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, December 20, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at the Jolliffe Funeral Home in Scottsbluff, Nebraska with Pastor Brad Kihlthau, officiating. Interment will follow in the Chimney Rock Cemetery at Bayard.
