Funeral Services for Agnes Russell will be held on Friday, November 19, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Funeral Home in Orleans, Nebraska with Reverend Duane Russell officiating. Interment will be held at Orleans Cemetery.
Laura "Agnes" Russell, 99 years of age, of Alma, Nebraska (formerly of Orleans), passed away on Sunday, November 14, 2010 at the Colonial Villa Good Samaritan Society in Alma. She was born on October 26, 1911 in Orleans, the second of four daughters born to James Thomas and Lillian Olive (Miller) Hunter. She attended school in Orleans.
On February 23, 1931 she was united in marriage to Arthur Judson Russell of Orleans and to this union one son, Ronald was born. The family made their home on a farm south of Orleans.
In 1935 they moved to Morrill, Nebraska and returned to the farm south of Orleans in 1942. They moved into Orleans in 1962. Arthur passed away in 1996.
Agnes was a member of the Evangelical Free Church of Orleans.
She enjoyed bead making, sewing and cooking. She also enjoyed tending to her flower garden. She was always a good neighbor and willing to help anyone in need. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Besides her parents and husband, Arthur, Agnes was preceded in death by her son, Ronald A. Russell; two grandchildren: Keven L. Russell and Valerie Russell; one sister: Blanche Viles; two brothers-in-law: Dale Bantam and Jerold Russell and his wife, Estalene; sisters-in-law: Elsie Randall, Doris Sell and her husband, Oliver; and one half-sister, Irene Perry.
She leaves to mourn her passing, 11 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters: Pauline Bantam of Alma and Maxine DeBord of Beatrice, Nebraska; one brother-in-law, James Russell and his wife, Evelyn of Holdrege; as well as several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 18, 2010 from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Mitchell Funeral Home in Orleans.
A memorial has been established in her memory and will be designated at a later date.
