Celebration of Life Services for Alberta R. Leising will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Oxford, Nebraska with Reverend Wes Hafner officiating. A private family graveside service was held at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell, Nebraska.
Due to health concerns, regarding the COVID-19 pandemic; current CDC and Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services guidelines for Faith-Based Services will be followed. The Leising family sincerely encourages each person to make their decision whether to attend Alberta's services based on the best interest of your health, and that of your community. Alberta's memorial service will be recorded and posted following the services to the church's Facebook page: St. John's Lutheran Church - Oxford.
Alberta Rae (Cole) Leising was born November 6, 1936, to Jennings and Arlene (Anders) Cole on a farm near Bertrand, Nebraska. She was baptized December 6, 1936, and confirmed July 31, 1949. She had one sister, Verle (Cole) Johnsen. Alberta departed this life unexpectedly on Friday, March 20, 2020, on the farm east of Edison at the age of 83 years.
Alberta grew up on a farm between Loomis and Bertrand. She attended Keystone rural school, graduating in 1949; and then attended Bertrand High School, graduating with the class of 1953. She began teaching in rural schools near Bertrand, while she was pursuing higher education at Kearney State College. Alberta graduated with her Bachelors degree in Education in 1961. She moved to Lincoln, and continued to teach until 1966.
In 1962, Alberta met Carl Leising. This special bond turned into a wonderful relationship. They were united in marriage on June 6, 1964, and were blessed with three children: Valerie Lynne, Arlan Lee and Michelle Louise. In 1971, Carl and Alberta moved their family to the farm east of Edison where he grew up. With hard work, good decisions, the love of the land, and their trust in the Lord, the farm prospered. Alberta focused her efforts caring for the needs of her family, and assisting on the farm. In her spare time, Alberta enjoyed embroidery, crosswords, and playing cards. On January 21, 2009, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl.
Alberta was a devoted member of the St. John's Lutheran Church in Oxford, where she enjoyed her involvement with ladies of the church quilting, and the LWML. Alberta also enjoyed Bible study, and ministering to the ladies of the church with devotionals. Every month she and a good friend from church would get together and make daily devotions for the ladies in their church. Alberta's devotional this Friday, (the day of her passing) was "I Know That My Redeemer Lives"; and for Saturday, her devotion was "Heaven Is My Home." This is very comforting to her family at this difficult time.
Besides her parents, and husband, Carl; Alberta was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Lloyd Johnsen.
Alberta leaves to celebrate her life; her three children: Valerie Masin and her husband, Rick of Ord, Nebraska; Arlan Leising of Arapahoe, Nebraska; and Michelle Leising of Lincoln, Nebraska; three grandchildren: James Masin; Richele Masin and Hannah Masin; sister, Verle Johnsen of Orleans, Nebraska; brother-in-law, Don Leising and his wife, Marlene of Lincoln; her grand-dogs: Ruby and Durango; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Per Alberta's wish, there will be no memorial book signing.
In lieu of flowers; a memorial has been established in Alberta's honor, and kindly suggested to the Lutheran Hour Ministries.
Expressions of caring and kindness can be sent to the family at www.nelsonbauerfh.com
