Funeral Services for Alfred Fahrenbruch will be conducted from the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bertrand, Nebraska on Thursday, November 9, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Gary Panko, officiating. Interment will be in the Immanuel Cemetery, north of Bertrand in Phelps County, Nebraska.
Alfred Dale Fahrenbruch, 83 years of age, of Bertrand, passed away on Saturday, November 4, 2006 at the Bryan LGH-East Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska. Alfred was born February 2, 1923 at Culbertson, Nebraska, the eldest of four sons of Jake and Amelia (Bauer) Fahrenbruch. Alfred grew up at Culbertson, where he received his primary education and then graduated from Culbertson High School with the class of 1941. Following his education, Alfred engaged in farming with his father near Culbertson. Alfred then moved to the Bertrand area where he continued his life's passion of farming.
On November 7, 1943 he was united in marriage to Emma Sitzman and to this union three children were born: Elizabeth Ann, Gerald Kent and James Alfred. The family made their home on the farm in the Bertrand area where Alfred continued farming. One of his favorite past-times was going to the pasture to check his cattle. Following Alfred's retirement, the couple moved into Bertrand in August of 1989.
Alfred was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bertrand, where he served on the church board and a church league sponsor. Alfred also served on the Board of Directors of the Bertrand Cooperative Exchange; served on the Board of Directors of the Loomis Pig Cooperative and in his younger years enjoyed volunteering his time with the Boy Scouts.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Emma of Bertrand; son, Jim Fahrenbruch and his wife, Cindy of rural Loomis, Nebraska; daughter-in-law, Diane Fahrenbruch and her fiancé, Jerry Kenyon of Grand Island, Nebraska; three grandchildren: Jeff Fahrenbruch and his wife, Becky of Brooklyn Heights, Minnesota, Amie Fahrenbruch of Castle Rock, Colorado, Chris Fahrenbruch of Loomis and his special friend, Stephanie Meyer; one great-granddaughter, Trinity Fahrenbruch of Minneapolis; one brother, Ray Fahrenbruch and his wife, Leola of Bertrand; sisters-in-law: Phyllis Fahrenbruch of Kearney, Nebraska and Verlyn Johnson and her husband, Dick of Holdrege; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Elizabeth in infancy; son, Jerry Fahrenbruch on November 2, 2000 and two brothers: Joe and Harold Fahrenbruch.
Mr. Fahrenbruch will lie in state at the Sandstrom Funeral Home in Bertrand on Wednesday, November 8, 2006 from 10:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
A memorial has been established in his memory to the Bertrand Rescue Unit or the Immanuel Lutheran Church.
