Funeral Services for Alfred Rhinesmith will be conducted from the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege, Nebraska on Friday, March 30, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Dale Lambert, officiating. Interment will be in the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege with Military Honors provided by the Holdrege American Legion Post #66 and the Army National Guard.

Alfred "Al" Rhinesmith, 92 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Sunday, March 25, 2012 at the Bethany Home in Minden, Nebraska. Al was born in Midvale, New Jersey on October 21, 1919. He was one of five children born to Chester and Bessie (Williams) Rhinesmith. He received his primary education and was the first of his family to graduate from high school, doing so in 1937.

Al was inducted into the Army on September 22, 1942. He served tours in Africa and France during World War II.

In 1942, Al was united in marriage to Josephine Rahart. To this union one daughter, Beverley was born.

In the late 1960s, Al and Josephine moved to Holdrege, where Al worked as a Plant Manager of Artistic Woven Labels. Al and Josephine raised cattle and farmed in the Atlanta, Nebraska area for over 40 years. Al was very passionate about his animals. He was very concerned about the environment and used minimal chemicals in his own garden.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege. In February 2012, Al and Josephine celebrated 70 years of marriage.

Besides his parents and two siblings in infancy, Al was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters and their spouses.

Al is survived by his wife, Josephine of Bethany Home in Minden; daughter, Beverley Rhinesmith-Pape of Doylestown, Pennsylvania; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and neighbors.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 29, 2012 at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege from 1:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

A memorial has been established in his memory and kindly suggested to the Holdrege American Legion Post #66.
