Alice Lorraine Engler, 78 years of age, of Alma, Nebraska, formerly of Long Island, Kansas, passed away on Friday, April 1, 2016 at the Beaver City Manor in Beaver City, Nebraska. Alice was born March 17, 1938 at her family home near Old Town, Maine, the youngest of three children born to Roland and Arlene (Kennedy) Carr. She received her education from the Old Town School District.
On March 2, 1957, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Eddie E. Engler in Old Town and to this union one son was born, Eddie, Jr. "Butch". The family moved to Connecticut, where Eddie worked for Alice's uncle, making cement blocks. Alice focused her efforts on raising Butch and helping Eddie with chores and farm work as needed.
Alice enjoyed fishing, crocheting and oil painting. In her younger years, she enjoyed traveling to Minnesota to visit family and riding snowmobiles. She spent many hours flying with Eddie, Sr. in their airplane and was especially fond of her dogs.
Besides her parents, Alice was preceded in death by a brother in infancy; brother-in-law, Max Jesson and her husband, Eddie on August 24, 2014.
She leaves to celebrate her life, her son, Eddie "Butch" Engler, Jr. of Kenesaw, Nebraska; granddaughter, Amanda Rupe of Minden, Nebraska; great-granddaughter, Amelia Rupe of Minden; two sisters: Gloria Jesson of Deland, Florida and Loretta Cates of Bangor, Maine; many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
There will be no memorial book signing. The family is honoring Alice's wish for cremation.
Private Graveside Memorial Services will be held at a later date at the Long Island Cemetery in Long Island, Kansas.
A memorial has been established in Alice's honor and kindly suggested to the family.
