Memorial Services for Allan F. Wilson will be conducted from the Bethel Lutheran Church in Holdrege, Nebraska on Tuesday, August 7, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend David Sites and Intern Nathan Metzger, officiating.
Allan Foster Wilson, 79 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Saturday, August 4, 2007 at the Holdrege Memorial Homes. Allan was born on October 21, 1927, the youngest of two sons of Roger V. and Nelle (Law) Wilson Sr. He attended elementary, high school and college in Tarkio, Missouri. He was baptized and confirmed in the Christian Church.
At the age of 15, Allan started working after school at the Curfman Hardware Store and continued through his school years. Following graduation from high school he served his country, stationed in Alaska in the United States Navy until November 20, 1947. Allan then attended Tarkio College in Tarkio, Missouri, graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Commerce in 1951.
On June 25, 1950 Allan was united in marriage to M. Louise Sickman and to this union four children were born: Marynelle, Janet, Jane and Reed. The couple made their home in Tarkio until moving to Atchison, Kansas in 1952. He was employed by Blish Mize Company, a national wholesale hardware retailer and was soon given the territory of Nebraska. They then moved to Holdrege in 1953 and Allan traveled for forty years for the company. On October 30, 1992 he retired. Allan enjoyed his retirement and worked part-time for Perry Lumber Company. He spent many hours doing volunteer work, enjoyed fishing, excelled at woodworking and was an avid reader. For those who knew Allan, they enjoyed his cooking and baking. This past June, Allan and Louise celebrated their 57th Wedding Anniversary.
He was a faithful member of Bethel Lutheran Church, serving on the property committee and was head usher for many years. He was a member of the United Commercial Travelers since 1953 and was a volunteer for the Phelps County Food Pantry. He was an active member and past president of the Kiwanis Millennium Club of Holdrege and was a George F. Hixson Fellow as well.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Louise of Holdrege; their children: Marynelle Wilson of Holdrege, Janet Wilson of Thornton, Colorado, Jane Woolf and her husband, Simon of Beaconsfield, England and Reed Wilson of Loomis, Nebraska; sisters-in-law: Eleanor Wilson of Fresno, California and Marie Joesting and her husband, Lee of Nebraska City, Nebraska; brothers-in-law: Carl Sickman of Tarkio, Missouri and Marion Sickman and his wife, Miriam of Fountain Valley, California; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Roger V. Wilson Jr; sister-in-law, Margaret Sickman and brother-in-law, Paul Holliway.
There will be no visitation, the family is honoring Allan's wish for cremation.
