Funeral Services for Allen D. Johnson will be conducted from the First Baptist Church in Holdrege, Nebraska on Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Darren Stroh, officiating. Interment will be held at Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege.
Allen Dale Johnson, 77 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Thursday, September 16, 2010 at the Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. He was born May 1, 1933 at Holdrege, the eldest of two children born to John A. and Lena M. (Christensen) Johnson. He received his primary education at the District #56 country school in Phelps County. At the age of 13, Allen started farming the family farm five miles south of Holdrege. He graduated from Holdrege High School with the class of 1953, and he also began a cow/calf operation.
On January 14, 1956, he was united in marriage to Betty Rae Williams and to this union six children were born: Dale, Robert, Jim, Kenton, Barbara and Peggy. Allen and Betty raised their family on the farm south of Holdrege, where he continued to live until his passing. In 1975, Betty suffered a severe stroke and Allen dedicated his life to caring for his beloved wife and support to his family.
A highlight of his life was getting a chance to go to the Indianapolis 500 with his father. The family will remember Dad's love for his enjoyment of a bottle of pop and candy bar every Sunday with his family and friends.
Allen was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a grandson, Jade Johnson; one sister, Dorothy Mae Johnson; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Melvin and Catherine Williams; and two brothers-in-law: Warren and Bud Williams.
He is survived by his wife, Betty of Holdrege; six children: Dale Johnson and his wife, Kim of Lincoln, Nebraska, Robert Johnson of Holdrege, Jim Johnson and his wife, Carla of Tempe, Arizona, Kenton Johnson and his wife, Kyla of Beatrice, Nebraska, Barbara Johnson and her husband, Rick of Holdrege, Peggy Mondt of Holdrege; 16 grandchildren: Blaze Johnson and his wife, Emily, Tasia Johnson, Anthony Johnson, Jeremy Johnson, Jace Johnson, Trev Johnson, Toni Wells and her husband, Nick, Toby Johnson and his wife, Chelsea, Taylor Johnson, Jessica Powley and her husband, Travis, Jarvis Johnson, Jordan Wells and her husband, Randy, Bobbie Mondt, Mallarie Mondt, Bryon Mondt, Kieran Richey; 5 great-grandchildren: Sammie, Charli, Trey, Pyper and Harley; two sisters-in-law: Shirley Quanz and her husband, Bob of Glade, Kansas and Jean McAfee and her husband, Jack of Vancouver, Washington; brother-in-law, Jim Williams of Salt Lake City, Utah; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 20, 2010 from 1:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.
A memorial has been established in his memory and will be designated at a later date.
