Graveside services and interment for Alma "Lou" Huggins were held on Friday, January 20, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Bear Creek Cemetery at Bertram, Texas.
Alma Lucille "Lou" Huggins, 82 years of age, of Alma, Nebraska, passed away on Friday, January 13, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Society – Colonial Villa in Alma. She was born December 17, 1934 in Kansas City, Kansas, the daughter of Arthur Leroy Biggs and Theresa Josephine Heiman. She was baptized in the Catholic faith as an infant in Kansas City, Kansas and later confirmed at Kansas City, Missouri.
She attended grade school at a Catholic school in Kansas City, Missouri and then high school at the Loretto Academy in Kansas City, where she graduated with the class of 1952. Following high school, "Lou" as everyone came to know her, attended the Sacred Heart College at Wichita, Kansas. She received her teaching certificate and then pursued another two years of college at Sacred Heart to become a librarian. She was later employed as a librarian at a public library and as a teacher in both Kansas and Texas.
On June 2, 1954, Miss Alma Lucille Secor was united in marriage to Raymond Ray Huggins of Bertram Texas in Wichita, Kansas. To this union two children were born: son, Michael Raymond in 1956 while stationed (USAF) in the Azores Island and daughter, Lucinda Lucille, 1957 while stationed at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Her husband Ray served his country in the United States Air Force serving in the Azores Islands off the coast of Portugal, Myrtle Beach South Carolina, Yokota AFB in Japan, Lockbourne AFB at Columbus, Ohio, Altus AFB in Altus City Oklahoma and finally, Bergstrom AFB in Austin Texas where he retired after 21 years of service. After years of travel and adventure Ray and Lou with their family settled in a country home at the foot of the San Juan range of the Rocky Mountains in Montrose, Colorado in 1970. Many years later, they bought their forever home in Alma Nebraska to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
After settling in Alma, Lou and Ray continued their love of antique furniture by opening Huggins Antique Furniture Restoration, which they owned and operated until Ray's passing on February 27, 1994.
Besides her husband, Ray; Lou was preceded in death by her parents and beloved Grandparents.
Lou leaves; her daughter, Lucinda Donaldson and Partner, Debra Littler of Arkansas; her son, Michael Huggins and his wife, Mary Elizabeth of Texas; half-brother, Bill Biggs and his wife, Martha of Kansas; four grandchildren: Jennifer Smidt and Jarod Jacob of Neligh, Nebraska, Jacob Donaldson and his wife, Grace of Lawrence, Kansas, Rachel Huggins and Margo Huggins. Lou had five great-grandchildren: Ayden Donaldson, Isabella, Lily Ann, Dannyka Smidt and Lincoln Donaldson. Lou also leaves behind her dedicated and loving friend and caretaker for the past 17 years, Becky Lyon of Alma whose relationship Lou treasured; and a host of other relatives and many friends.
No viewing was held. Lou was laid to rest next to her husband, Ray and her mother, Theresa Heiman.
