Alta M. Ekberg

Funeral Service for Alta M. Ekberg will be held on Monday, April 26, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at the Moses Hill Evangelical Covenant Church in rural Loomis, Nebraska with Pastors Brad Perry and Murray Jones officiating.   Interment will follow at the Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege, Nebraska.

Alta May Ekberg, 88 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away, on Tuesday, April 20, 2021, at the Holdrege Memorial Homes in Holdrege.  Alta was born on March 26, 1933, in Holdrege, the oldest of three children, born to Roy and Alfreda (Nelson) Epping. She attended Holdrege Public Schools, graduating from Holdrege High School with the class of 1950.

On September 6, 1953, she was united in marriage to Robert Ekberg and to this union, they were blessed with three children: Susan, Jim and Jane. The family made their home in Holdrege, where Alta worked at Shaffer Cleaners and Becton Dickinson. After the children were grown, Bob and Alta enjoyed camping and canoeing with friends and family. The couple also enjoyed 9 winters together in Arizona.

Alta had many hobbies, but especially enjoyed her flower garden and golfing. Alta was a member of the Does.

Alta was preceded in death by: her parents; brother, Neil Epping; brother-in-law, Robert Polly; and her in laws, Frank and Veda Ekberg.

Alta is survived by her husband, Bob Ekberg of Holdrege; her sister, Virgean Polly of Anadarko, Oklahoma; her children: Susan Cramer (Dave) of Holdrege; Jim Ekberg (Trudy) of Funk, Nebraska; and Jane Gaffney (Kevin) of Holdrege; 7 grandchildren: Brian Cramer; Hilary Schriner (Jeff); Bret Ekberg (Andrea); Tanner Ekberg; Anthony Presnell (Meghan); Brittany Presnell; and Aaron Presnell (Ashlen); 8 great-grandchildren: Brandon, Natalie, and Gabbie Schriner; Karter and Halli Ekberg; and Kannen, Kyhlen, and Azrielle Presnell; many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

There will be no visitation or memorial book signing.

A memorial has been established in Alta's honor, and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
