Funeral Services for Alvera J. Johnson will be conducted from the Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Holdrege, Nebraska on Tuesday, December 18, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Murray Jones and Mr. Wayne Carlson, officiating. Interment will be in the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege.
Alvera J. Johnson, 102 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Thursday, December 13, 2007 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Alvera was born June 13, 1905 on the family farm north of Holdrege in Phelps County, Nebraska, the second of eleven children of Elmer and Nina (Hallin) Anderson. She received her education in rural Phelps County.
On August 11, 1925 she was united in marriage to Oscar A. Johnson at the Trinity parsonage in Holdrege and to this union one son, Lester C. O. Johnson was born. The couple made their home on a farm north of Holdrege, where they engaged in farming and provided custom farming for area neighbors. Alvera worked side-by-side on the farm with her husband, Oscar and focused on raising their son, Lester. She loved tending to her garden and continued this hobby until she was 99 years of age.
She attended the Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Holdrege, where she was involved in many activities through the years and enjoyed many friendship bonds formed in the C.I.C. Club.
On March 20, 1992 she was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar. In December of 2005, Alvera made her home at Christian Homes in Holdrege.
She leaves to mourn her passing her son, Lester C. O. Johnson and his wife, Marfay of Wilcox, Nebraska; two grandsons: Richard Johnson and his wife, Connie of Lexington, Nebraska and Steven Johnson and his wife, Gail of Wilcox; five great-grandchildren: Jeremiah Johnson and his wife, Heather of Wilcox, Joshua Johnson of Lincoln, Nebraska, Jeffrey Johnson and his wife, Shaina of Wilcox, Jordan Johnson of Lincoln and Jennifer Beemer and her husband, Geoffrey of Imperial, Nebraska; three great-great grandchildren: Chase and Makayla Johnson and Micah Johnson all of Wilcox; one sister, Rueay Glatzhoffer of Chicago, Illinois; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Selman and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides her husband, Oscar, she was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers and three sisters.
Alvera will lie in state at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege on Monday, December 17, 2007 from 1:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
