Funeral Services for Alvin E. Jauken will be held on Friday, January 22, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska with Chaplain DeWane Dow and Mr. Wayne Carlson officiating.  Interment will be in the Moses Hill Cemetery in Phelps County following the services.

Alvin Eugene Jauken, 83 years of age, of Holdrege, (formerly of Loomis) passed away on Monday, January 18, 2016 at the Christian Homes Care Community in Holdrege. Alvin was born November 7, 1932 on the family farm northeast of Oxford in Harlan County, the 11 th of 14 children born to William Henry and Minnie Caroline (Winters) Jauken.  He began his education from a rural school in Harlan County, near his home and then transferred to the Mascot School.  Following his education, he began his life-long passion of farming.

On April 29, 1956, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Faye Schenk and to this union four children were born: Kathleen, Kevin, Kelvin and Keith. Alvin worked for eight years at the Hay Mill in Loomis, Nebraska and then worked for area farmers until he began farming on his own. Later in years, Alvin was employed by John Deere in Elwood, Nebraska as a mechanic until Dorothy's health began to fail. Alvin was a devoted caretaker for Dorothy until her passing in 2000.  Following Dorothy's passing, Alvin was employed by Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District out of Bertrand and also served as the caretaker of the Moses Hill Cemetery for several years.

Alvin was a member of the Evangelical Free Church in Loomis, where he served in many capacities including:  Trustee, Treasurer and Sunday school secretary.  He was also a member of the Loomis Fire Department for many years.  In recent years, he enjoyed attending services at the Christian Homes Chapel. Alvin also enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing, playing horseshoes, and was an all-around handyman.  Most of all, he loved the time spent with his family.

Besides his parents, and wife, Dorothy; Alvin was preceded in death by seven brothers:  Bill Jauken and his wife, Orpha, John Jauken, Royie Jauken, George Jauken, Hank Jauken, Clyde Jauken and Neil Jauken and his wife, Elaine; three sisters: Verna Frost and her husband, Don, Beulah Falk and Margaret Chattin; and brothers-in-law:  Cornelius Vandenberg, Virgil Davis, Gilbert Schenk and his wife, Shirley, Marlin Schenk and his two wives:  Shirley and Bonnie, and Charles Kudrna.

Alvin leaves to celebrate his life; his four children:  Kathy Weber and her husband, Jerold of Bertrand, Nebraska, Kevin Jauken of Bertrand, Kelly Jauken and his wife, Laurie of Elwood, Nebraska and Keith Jauken and his wife, Lea of Funk; nine grandchildren:  Tiffany Langford and her husband, Chris, Jerod Weber and his wife, Jennifer, Erin Jauken, Kyle and Kameron Jauken, and Lindsey, Brandon, Megan, and Alex Jauken; eleven great-grandchildren:  Collin, Coleman, Cooper, Tobi, and Tinley Langford, Jayden, Jerzee, and Jillian Weber, Elijah Jauken, Aubrey High, and Onika Whetstine; one brother, Lee Jauken and his wife, LaJean of Holdrege; two sisters: Eldora Vandenberg of Hawarden, Iowa and Donna Anderson and her husband, Darol of Georgetown, Delaware; sisters-in-law:  Donna Jauken of Holdrege, Anita Jauken of Lacey, Washington, Eunice Jauken of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Marge Kudrna of Wayne, Nebraska, Darlene Davis of Red Cloud, Nebraska, and Marilyn Frost of Elwood; brothers-in-law:  Rev. Maynard Falk of Holdrege, Lloyd Schenk and his wife, Marilyn of Enumclaw, Washington, Ken Schenk and his wife, Avis of West Point Nebraska, Eleanor Burgess and her husband, Raymond of Red Cloud, Gloria Steiner and her husband, Jack of Hastings, Nebraska; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held Thursday, January 21, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.

A memorial has been established in Alvin's honor and will be designated at a later date.
