Alvin Kellogg, 94 years of age, of Holdrege (formerly of rural Harlan County, Nebraska) passed away on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at the Christian Homes Care Community in Holdrege.
Alvin was born March 23, 1924 at Burke, South Dakota, and adopted to Oakley Benjamin and Amanda May (Cramer) Kellogg. Alvin received his primary education from Dunning Public Schools, and then attended Sargent High School.
Alvin began his life's work of ranching, and a hired man on farms at a very young age. He was employed by several area farmers for many years. Alvin joined the Thieszen family farm in rural Harlan County, and was employed with them as their hired man for over 18 years. He became part of the Thieszen's family during these years that he was such a devoted hired man. In his spare time, Alvin enjoyed crocheting; and loved putting puzzles together.
In 2010, he had a union of blessing to Elaine Martindale, and later in that same year he was preceded in death by Elaine on December 13, 2010. After making Christian Homes his residence, the staff and friends he developed became just like family to him.
Besides the love of his life, Elaine; he was preceded in death by his biological parents; his adopted parents; birth sister, Evelyn Wiedel and her husband, Henry; and adopted brother, Harold Smith.
Alvin leaves to celebrate his life; the entire Thieszen family; Elaine's children: Claire Olson of Holdrege; Jay Martindale and his wife, Kathie of Brewster, Nebraska; Mark Martindale and his wife, Dee of Funk, Nebraska; and Glen Martindale and his wife, Pam of Whittington, Illinois; and a host of extended family and friends.
Memorial book signing will be held prior to the service at the Christian Homes Chapel.
A memorial has been established in Alvin's honor, and will be designated at a later date.
