Amelia "Maxine" Gwinner, 92 years of age, of Holdrege passed away on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at the Christian Homes Care Community at Holdrege. Maxine was born on February 5, 1924 in Alma, Nebraska, the eldest of three children born to Ralph Edward and Clara Altheria (Shield) Dunn. She grew up in Atlanta and graduated from Atlanta High School with the next to last class in 1941.

On May 18, 1947, Maxine was united in marriage to Frederick John "Fred" Gwinner and they made their home on a farm north of Holdrege for many years. Fred passed away on February 12, 1972. In 1993, Maxine moved into Holdrege and in January 2006 began to make her home at the Christian Homes Care Community.

Maxine enjoyed life as a farmwife for 25 years and then worked in food service and as a nurse's aide at Methodist Memorial Homes for almost 18 years.

Maxine and Fred were involved in the National Farmers Organization (NFO). Maxine was also involved with the Democratic Women, the National Sod House Society and the Phelps County Historical Society. She was a life-long member of the Methodist Church holding several offices including a district officer position in the UMW. She was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church choir in Holdrege for as long as her health permitted. She loved to watch baseball, enjoyed her flowers and garden, playing cards and whistling. She enjoyed traveling and attended the Conference on the Law of the Sea at the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland, which was very exciting for her.

Besides her parents and husband, Fred; Maxine was preceded in death by her sister, Eleanor Patterson and her husband, Dean; her brother, Leslie Dunn and her sister-in-law, Margaret Tubbs.

Maxine leaves to celebrate her life: nieces and nephews: Darlene Schaap and her husband, Ron of Omaha, Nebraska, Lyle Patterson and his wife, Dotty Jo of Holdrege, Diane Hammack and husband, Kenny of The Woodlands, Texas and Ken Dunn and his wife, Debbie of Corpus Christi, Texas; sister-in-law, Jewel Dunn of Corpus Christi; as well as their families and other cousins and friends.

There will be no visitation as the family is honoring Maxine's wish for cremation.
