Graveside Memorial Services for Amos "Lee" Molzahn will be held on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at the Alma Cemetery in Alma, Nebraska with Pastor Jay Brandon officiating.
Amos "Lee" Molzahn was born in Phillips County, Kansas on September 14, 1927. He was the second-born to Fredrick Carl and Nina Josephine (Cockroft) Molzahn, between older brother Ronald and younger sister Connie. God welcomed Lee to his eternal home on April 27, 2018, while he was residing at the Big Bend Hospice facility in Tallahassee, Florida.
Lee grew up farming with his family, and graduated from Phillips County country schools. Shortly after the conclusion of World War II, Lee enlisted and proudly served in the U.S. Army Harbor Patrol, deployed in both post-war Japan and in South Korea as the onset of the Korean War loomed.
Upon returning home from the Army, Lee worked with his father and older brother Ronald on the family farm. He met his nephew's first-grade teacher, Mary Elizabeth "Mary Beth" Rupp, and they were married on February 26, 1950 in Long Island, Kansas. To this union, three children were born: Dennis Lee "Denny", Catherine Ilene "Cathy", and Fredrick Henry "Fred." They lived on a farm in rural Phillips County, and Lee began working at the CO-OP in Phillipsburg, Kansas. The family soon moved to Alma, Nebraska.
Lee relocated to Denver, Colorado in 1959 after he and Mary Beth were divorced. While in Denver, Lee married Barbara Ann "Barb" (Torres) Bohl and gained two stepchildren: Evelyn "Lynn" and Edwin "Eddie" Bohl. Lee and Barb had two more children together: Debra Ann "Debbie" and Rodney Allen. They moved to Fort Morgan, where Lee worked for the power company.
After moving his new family to California, Lee became a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He was employed as a lineman for over fifty years, working in various locations across the West / Southwest. He was proud to have helped construct the power lines serving the Grand Canyon. While in California, Lee & Barb joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Following Lee's retirement, they moved to Phoenix, Arizona and became guardians of their granddaughter, Debbie's daughter Dana. When Barb's health began to wane years later, they moved to Florida to be near her daughter Lynn (Bohl) Garst and her family. But, Lee always longed to come back home.
A quiet man, Lee loved his family. Throughout life, he enjoyed his friends, church community, gardening, and animals; especially horses. He enjoyed the mountains and the desert, he loved his Chevrolet El Camino, admired John Deere machinery, and while in Arizona he learned the art of making turquoise jewelry.
Lee had a lifelong respect for President Truman, and was excited to be treated to an excursion to the Truman House in Independence, Missouri while visiting Denny. Lee enjoyed volunteering at the Arizona State Fair, and he had many entertaining stories of working security at Walmart.
Lee was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son Denny, daughter Debbie, son-in-law Chuck Claussen, sister-in-law Helen, and brother Ronald.
Lee is survived by his sister Connie and her husband Francis Gordon of Agra, Kansas; his daughter Cathy of Oberlin, Kansas; son Fred of Norcatur, Kansas; son Rodney of Phoenix, Arizona; daughter-in-law Melaine of Independence, Missouri; stepdaughter Lynn and her husband Richard Garst of Crawfordville, Florida; and stepson Eddie and his wife Sandy Bohl of St. Joseph, Missouri; plus many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
The Bauer-Torrey & Mach Funeral Home in Alma is assisting the family.
