Anders "Andy" Wallace Ashley, 79 years of age, of Alma, passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2019, at the Kearney Regional Medical Center in Kearney, Nebraska. Andy was born December 24, 1939, in Holdrege, Nebraska, the sixth of seven children born to Glenn Raymond and Ellen Hedwig Gustava (Westergren) Ashley. He was the only Christmas present his siblings got that year. He received his education from Ragan Public Schools and graduated from Ragan High School with the class of 1957. Following his education, Andy worked on the family farm with his father. Later on, he worked for Jon Weisheit Construction. In 1963, Andy enlisted in the National Guard.
On April 30, 1977, Andy was united in marriage to Susan L. Dunn at the First Christian Church in Alma, and to this union, they were blessed with two children: Jennifer and Levi. The family made their home in Alma. Andy was a self-employed contractor for many years. He then worked for the Alma Housing Authority for over 30 years and the Colonial Villa and Assisted Living for over 20 years.
Andy was a hard worker and always on the go. He rarely sat still. He enjoyed attending his son's running activities; cheering on the Denver Broncos and all Husker sports. Andy's greatest joy were the special memories with his granddaughter; dressing up in costumes to humor his wife; and how proud he was of his daughter's perseverance during her surgeries and teaching.
He was a member of the Alma United Methodist Church.
Andy was preceded in death by; his parents; and four sisters: Merle Motley, Phyllis Konzack, Estella Ashley, and Ardith Ashley.
He leaves to celebrate his life; his wife, Susan Ashley of Alma; his children: Jennifer Ashley of Vermillion, South Dakota; and Levi Ashley and his wife, Latasha of Littleton, Colorado; one granddaughter, Nora; one brother, John Ashley and his wife, Janet of Holdrege, Nebraska; one sister, LaDonna Schluterbusch and her husband, Larry of Bridgeport, Nebraska; two brothers-in-law, Steven Dunn and his wife, Mary of Papillion, Nebraska; and Sam Dunn and his wife, Cheryl of Loomis, Nebraska; one sister-in-law, Shelly Dunn and Rachel of Kearney; along with special nephews, nieces, other relatives, and many friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 7, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the Bauer-Torrey & Mach Funeral Home in Alma with the family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
