Funeral Services for Ardis E. "Gracie" Gibson will be conducted from the St. Elizabeth's Episcopal Church in Holdrege, Nebraska on Monday, October 3, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Karen Watson, officiating. Interment will be in the Kearney Cemetery at Kearney, Nebraska following the service.

Ardis Estille "Gracie" Gibson, 95 years of age, of Holdrege, (formerly of Kearney) passed away on Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Gracie was born June 26, 1916 at Beaver City, Nebraska, the seventh of eight children born to Rosswell Carson and Tillie E. (Wolfe) Shellenbarger. She was baptized in the First Christian Church in Kearney in 1957. Gracie received her education from Beaver City, graduating from Beaver City High School. Following her education, Gracie resided in Omaha, Nebraska, where she was employed by Brandeis Department Store.

On July 15, 1937, she was united in marriage to Noel W. "Hoot" Gibson and to this union one son, Larry Lee was born who soon after birth passed away at six months of age. The couple made their home in Minnesota and California until later returning to Nebraska, where they settled to Kearney. Gracie was employed as a bookkeeper at Baldwin's, Caldwell's and Hirschfeld's throughout her working career. On July 13, 2004, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hoot.

She was a member of St. Elizabeth's Episcopal Church in Holdrege, was a member of the Eagle's Auxiliary, where she served as president and past member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Gracie will be remembered by all her family and friends for her passionate following of Nebraska Football. She and Hoot enjoyed traveling to most of the Nebraska away games and all of the home games at Lincoln.

Besides her parents, son, Larry Lee and husband, Hoot; Gracie was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.

She is survived by her brother-in-law, Duane Gibson and his wife, Carol of Holdrege and a host of nieces, and nephews, many of which thought of her as Grandma; and other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 2, 2011 from 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.

A memorial has been established in her memory and kindly suggested to the St. Elizabeth's Episcopal Church in Holdrege.
