Memorial Services for Ardith Ann Tomes will be conducted from the Holdrege Memorial Chapel in Holdrege on Thursday, January 14, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Murray Jones, officiating. A second Memorial Service will be held in Peru, Indiana at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 23, 2010 with Flowers & Leedey Funeral Home of Peru in charge of arrangements there.
Ardith Ann Tomes, 72 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Monday, January 11, 2010 at Holdrege Memorial Homes. She was born on July 6, 1937 in Bertrand, Nebraska the middle child of five children born to Gerald and Mabel (Anderson) Nelson.
Ardith attended country school and then went to Lexington High School and graduated in 1954. She went on to take classes at Kearney State College and after that she taught country school for four years before getting married.
On November 15, 1963 she was united in marriage to Thomas J. Tomes in Omaha, Nebraska and resided in Council Bluffs, Iowa. In 1980 they moved to Mishawaka, Indiana. Mr. Tomes died in 1996 and Ardith moved back to Holdrege in 1998.
She enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, traveling, embroidery and collecting music boxes.
Besides her parents, and husband, Thomas, she was preceded in death by a son, Joel Tomes in 2006.
She is survived by her sons: Mike Tomes and his wife, Coleen of New Carlisle, Indiana, Tony Tomes and his wife, Jodi of Sierra Vista, Arizona, Don Tomes and his wife, Michele of Minden, Nebraska; 8 grandchildren: Sean and Michael Jr., Shane and Kayla, Brittany, Brook, Jacob and Julie; 4 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Geri Vinzant of Bertrand, Nebraska and Gloria Way of Lexington, Nebraska; and two brothers: Dick Anderson of San Diego, California, and Darrell Nelson of Orange, California.
A memorial has been established in her memory and will be designated at a later date.
