Celebration of Life Service for Arlene Mae Clawson will be conducted at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Homes in Holdrege, Nebraska on Monday, May 6, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Jean Clayton, officiating.  Interment will be held in the Mt. Hope Cemetery at Beaver City, Nebraska at 2:00 p.m.

Arlene Mae (Hanni) Clawson, 95 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at Holdrege Memorial Homes.  Arlene was born August 22, 1923, on the family farm south of Hendley in Furnas County, Nebraska, the second of three daughters born to Ernest and Anna (Schmid) Hanni.  She was raised on her parents' farmstead, south of Hendley.  She received her primary education at the Middle Rocton rural school south of Hendley, and then graduated from Beaver City High School in Beaver City, Nebraska with the class of 1942.

On July 20, 1942, she was united in marriage in Norton, Kansas to Wilbur "Curly" Clawson of Beaver City, and to this union three daughters were born:  Anna Louise, Zella Jo, and Nona Kay.  They made their home in Norton, and then Beaver City, before moving to Holdrege in 1947.  In the 1950's, in addition to being a homemaker, Arlene was a successful Avon representative and was recognized as one of their top ten salespersons.  In 1962, Curly and Arlene established their bakery at the Java Junction Café and Bakery on east 4 th Avenue Holdrege.  After closing the bakery in 1969, she was employed at Becton-Dickinson in Holdrege, where she worked for 10 years, retiring in 1981.  Arlene received the 1998 Community Service Award from BD for her volunteering efforts with the Phelps County Senior Center; Phelps Memorial Health Center; and the First United Methodist Church.  On October 17, 1993, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur "Curly" Clawson.

Besides her parents, and husband, Curly; Arlene was preceded in death by her two sisters: Josephine (Daffer) Welborn and Ruth Kentfield; and brothers-in-law: Lauren Daffer, Carl Welborn, and Lawrence Kentfield.

She leaves to celebrate her life; her three daughters:  Ann Tomey of North Fort Myers, Florida; Zella Felzenberg and her husband, Sanford of South Orange, New Jersey; and Nona Clawson of Denver, Colorado; four grandchildren: Stephanie Felzenberg; Darren Felzenberg; Natasha Marriner; and David Marriner and his wife, Jo; and two great-granddaughters:  Kylie and Taylor Bonomo; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 5, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorials be made in Arlene's honor to the Holdrege Memorial Homes Foundation, designated to the Activities Special Fund.
