Celebration of Life Services for Arnold L. "Lea" Scherer will be on Thursday, June 2, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska with Pastor Jim Hossler officiating. Interment will follow at the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege.

Arnold "Lea" Scherer, 81 years of age, of Kearney, Nebraska, passed away on Friday, May 27, 2016 at his home in Kearney. He was born August 2, 1934 in Wagner, South Dakota, the third of four sons born to Carl Floyd and Opal Dell (Walker) Scherer. He received his education from Geddes Public Schools in South Dakota, graduating with the class of 1952.

Following his education, Lea enlisted into the United States Army on May 8, 1957 and was honorably discharged from active duty on April 27, 1959. On July 21, 1957, he was united in marriage to Louise Elaine Brown and the couple was blessed with one son, Roger Lea.

On September 16, 1968, he was united in marriage to Emily Mae Lervig and Lea welcomed Emily's daughter, Roxann with open arms and the family was made complete. The family made their home in Holdrege, where Lea was employed for over 30 years at Southern Nebraska Rural Public Power District as a Lineman. He was later transferred to Franklin, Nebraska, where he resided until his retirement. Emily preceded him in death on April 14, 2007. Lea then began to make his home in Hastings, Nebraska, Minden, Nebraska and most recently in Kearney when his health began to fail.

Lea was a member of the North Park Assembly of God Church in Holdrege for over 35 years and in later years, attended Franklin Evangelical Free Church, where he drove the church bus. He was very involved in the children's ministry and music ministry, loved studying the Bible and also enjoyed singing in church.

Besides his parents and wife, Emily of 37 years; he was preceded in death by three brothers: Carl Fredrick Scherer, Loren Howard Scherer and Lawrence Arthur Scherer.

Lea leaves to celebrate his life; his son, Roger Lea Scherer of Washington State; step-daughter, Roxann Maurer and her husband, Steve of Trumbull, Nebraska; four grandchildren: Heather Gladney and her husband, Maj. Jason Gladney of Papillion, Nebraska, Heidi Anderson and her husband, Guy of Hastings, Nebraska, Michelle "Mikki" Hoisington and her husband, Chris of South Riding, Virginia, and Jacque Gardner of Hastings; 13 great-grandchildren: Natasha Lea, Meghan, Fiona Mae, Amber, Kelsie, Emily, Myriah, Abigail "Abby", Rachel, Brody, Ian, Joseph "Joey", Steven; 6 great great-grandchildren: Ava, Serenity, Izayah, Braytin, Keaytin and Damiah; 2 sisters-in-law: Sheryl Scherer and Ila Mae Scherer; special niece and caretaker, Victoria Bullock and her daughter, Miranda of Kearney; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.

A memorial has been established in Lea's honor and will be designated at a later date.
