Funeral services for Arnold F. "Arnie" Schoen will be held on Friday, February 16, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Oxford, Nebraska with Reverend Wes Hafner, officiating.  Interment will be held in the Oxford Cemetery following the services.

Arnold F. "Arnie" Schoen, 88 years of age, of Oxford, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at Holdrege Memorial Homes in Holdrege, Nebraska. He was born on January 7, 1930 at Oxford, the second of five children born to Emil and Cora (Meyer) Schoen of rural Oxford. Arnie attended Pleasant Hill country school, and graduated from Oxford High School with the class of 1947.

Following graduation, Arnie enlisted in the U.S. Air Force along with four other classmates. He was stationed at Lockbourne AFB in Columbus, Ohio. Following his honorable discharge from service, he returned home to rural Oxford.

On May 21, 1955, Arnie was united in marriage to Lorraine "Sadie" Tucker and to this union they were blessed with three children: James, Jerry and Julene. The family made their home on a farm northeast of Oxford, where Arnie pursued his lifelong passion of farming. His love of livestock was apparent with the vast array of animals including: hogs, turkeys, cattle and horses that called his farm home. He also enjoyed working with his children on a variety of 4-H projects. Arnie's love of land and livestock helped him to build a successful farming operation in rural Harlan County that continues to thrive in the family through his son and grandson.

He was a lifelong active member of St. John's Lutheran in Oxford, where he was baptized on February 2, 1930, and confirmed on April 18, 1943. Arnie was a devout member of his church and held many offices over the years including: Elder, Trustee, as well as serving in other roles.

Arnie and Sadie were blessed to see their children and grandchildren grow up in Oxford and watch them experience farm life. As a couple, they especially enjoyed playing cards, traveling, and visiting family and friends. Some of their most memorable trips included: Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Mexico and many of the 50 states.

Arnie embraced the challenge of being a lifelong caregiver to his son James. Despite his own health challenges in his later years, he remained positive and strong in his faith.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his three sisters: Florentine Belz and her husband, Walt; Shirley Schroder; and Corrine Schescke; brothers-in-law: Kenneth Tucker and his wife, Dorothy, and Royce Horsky; and sister-in-law, Maureen McClain and her husband, Elmer.

Arnie is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Lorraine Schoen of rural Oxford; sons: James Schoen of Holdrege Memorial Homes; and Jerry Schoen and his wife, Karen of rural Oxford; daughter, Julene Schoen of Lincoln, Nebraska and her friend, Bill Bose of Orleans; grandchildren: Janelle Schoen, Jennifer Epp and her husband, Logan, and Justin Schoen; brother, Kenneth Schoen and his wife, Darlene of Oxford; brothers-in-law: Bill Scheske of St. James, Missouri; Dale Schroder of Loveland, Colorado; and Keith Tucker of Oakland, California; sister-in-law, Marline Horsky of Florence, Oregon; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
