Audrey A Nantkes

Funeral Services for Audrey A. Nantkes will be conducted from the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Holdrege, Nebraska on Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. with the Reverend Ron Kuehner officiating. Interment will be in the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege.

Audrey Ann Nantkes, 84 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Friday, September 16, 2011 at the Holdrege Memorial Homes. Audrey was born on December 26, 1926 at Laurens, Iowa, the fifth of six children born to Lloyd G. and Jessie B. (Emerick) Fox.

Audrey received her education from Benson High School in Omaha, Nebraska, graduating with the class of 1943.

On November 6, 1944, Audrey was united in marriage to Floyd W. Scheel in Omaha, and to this union three children were born: Susan, Stephan, and Scott. In 1947, the couple moved to Holdrege, where they opened a roller skating rink, which they operated until 1959. Floyd then pursued a career in insurance and was a State Farm Agent in Holdrege and Audrey assisted in the office as the bookkeeper. Audrey was a very talented seamstress, and provided alterations for area Dry Cleaners as well. On February 20, 1981 she was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd. On July 13, 1985 she was united in marriage to Robert L. Nantkes and they continued to make their home in Holdrege until their passing.

Audrey enjoyed baking, especially her cookies, sewing, golf and playing bridge. Audrey was a member of the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, the Entre Nous Extension Club, and treasured the friendship bonds formed in several Bridge Clubs.

Besides her two husbands, Floyd and Robert, Audrey was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers: Harlan, Ralph, Kenneth and Clyde Fox; one sister, Ardis Williamson; step-daughter, Roberta Johnson and grandson, Timothy Scheel.

She leaves to mourn her passing her daughter, Susan Adams of Fort Myers, Florida; two sons: Stephan Scheel and his wife, Marilyn of Lorton, Virginia and Scott Scheel and his wife, Monnie of Aurora, Colorado; two step-sons: Steven Nantkes of North Platte, Nebraska and Jeffrey Nantkes and his wife, Kathy of Holdrege; four grandchildren: Todd Adams and his wife, Tami of Mounment, Colorado, Kurt Adams and his wife, Tawnia of Anchorage, Alaska, Melissa Scheel of Aurora, Colorado and Logan Scheel of Lorton, Virginia; six great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

A memorial has been established in Audrey's memory and kindly suggested to the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church or the Holdrege Memorial Homes.
