A celebration of the life of Barbara G. Clark will be conducted from the First Baptist Church in Holdrege, Nebraska, on Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Darren Stroh, officiating. Interment will be in the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege.
Barbara Gail Clark, 67 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Friday, May 7, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska. Barbara was born May 29, 1942, the daughter of Rollie and Dorothy (Cox) Harmon at Van Nuys, California, where her father was stationed in the military. She attended public schools in Clovis, New Mexico. Following high school, Barbara held many administrative and office management positions throughout her career. At one point in her career, she managed two Selective Service Offices for the federal government.
On May 18, 1962, she was united in marriage to Orvale "James" Clayton of Denver, Colorado and to this union four children were born: Shawna, Toby, Sharla and Jay. After living in western Nebraska, they moved to Holdrege in 1976.
On July 1, 1989, she married Lon Clark of Holdrege. The couple resided in Missouri, Texas, and Norfolk, Nebraska until their retirement and return to Holdrege to be near family. Her grandchildren were the apple of her eye. After being diagnosed with cancer in 2003, Barbara fought courageously and continued to make an impact to many lives including her family, friends and caregivers with her faith, and witness to the Lord.
Barbara was a member of the First Baptist Church of Holdrege. She formed several children's choirs throughout her adult life. She also enjoyed fishing, cooking, oil painting and entertaining.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents. She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, Lon of Holdrege; two daughters: Shawna Nelson and her husband, Clark of Funk, Nebraska, Sharla Yates and her husband, Michael of Lincoln, Nebraska; two sons: Toby Clayton and his wife, Dawn of Holdrege, Jay Clayton and his wife, Angie of Flower Mound, Texas; step-son, Steve Clark and his wife, Linda of Holdrege; twelve grandchildren: Whitney, Ceaver and Clayton Nelson, Danielle, Dillon and Antonia Clayton, Pierce, Preston, Tucker and Tristan Yates, and Lucas and Ava Clayton; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at the First Baptist Church in Holdrege from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
A memorial has been established in her memory and will be designated at a later date.
