Funeral Services for Barbara Burgess Loper of Holdrege, Nebraska will be conducted from the Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Holdrege, Nebraska on Monday, April 25, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Murray Jones officiating. Burial will be in the Minden Cemetery in Minden, Nebraska.

Barbara Jean Burgess Loper, age 50 passed away on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska. Barb was born October 5, 1960 in Minden, Nebraska the youngest of three children born to Larry and Betty Burgess. She attended school in Minden and later received her GED. She later attended college at Northwestern College in Scottsbluff, Nebraska and later Central Community College in Hastings, Nebraska.

Barb enjoyed work in the food industry. Her first job was at 13 years old, working at the Danish Coffee Shop in Minden. She most recently managed and operated the Coffee Cup Cafe in Funk, Nebraska.

Barb enjoyed horseback riding, painting, writing, singing, spending time with friends, family and especially her grandchildren, Austin and Emma.

Barb's faith in Jesus Christ was very important to her.

Barb fought a courageous battle against extensive small cell (oates) cancer and bone cancer. During a brief remission in September, Barb and her sister, Teresa went to Wasilla, Alaska to visit their brother, Larry Burgess, Jr. and his family for 10 days.

Barbara was preceded in death by her father, Larry Burgess; grandparents, L.W. "Spike" Burgess and Cecil and Doris Johnson.

Survivors include: her son, Jeremy and Katie Cash of Nebraska City, Nebraska; daughter, Jasmine Roskilly and son-in-law, Nate Talkingtion of Atlanta, Nebraska; son, Aaron Mead and Jessica Morrison of Rapid City, South Dakota; daughter, Abbi Royse and Derek Ott of Kearney, Nebraska; one brother, Larry Burgess, Jr. and Shannon Erlendson of Wasilla, Alaska; sister, Teresa Sumstine and her husband, Michael of Minden; Crystal and Kevin Koehn of Goodyear, Arizona; two grandchildren: Austin Barnhill and Emma Talkington of Atlanta; mother, Betty Royse and step-father, Frank of Kearney; step-mother, Paula Burgess of Minden; grandmother, Pauline Burgess of Yuma, Colorado; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and a large host of friends.

Visitation will be held at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege on Saturday, April 23, 2011 from 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

A memorial has been established in Barb's name and can be sent to the family at PO Box 294, Minden, Nebraska 68959.
