Memorial Graveside Services and Inurnment for Barbara J. Penrod will be held on Friday, May 1, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at the Mount Hope Cemetery in Beaver City, Nebraska with Mr. Keith Theobald officiating.
Barbara Jane "Barb" Penrod, 80 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska, passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at her home in Holdrege. Barb was born August 25, 1934 in Beaver City, the eldest of three children born to Charlie Ivan and Grace Loaraine (Little) Schleicher. She received her education at Wilsonville, Nebraska, graduating from Wilsonville High School with the class of 1952.
On May 19, 1952, she was united in marriage to Merlin Penrod and to this union three sons were born: Stewart Craig, Mark Scott and Barry Ivan. The family made their home in Oxford, where Barb was co-owner of Penrod Cleaners for nine years and then was employed as the secretary at the Methodist Church in Oxford for seven years. She then began her career in advertising at the Holdrege Daily Citizen that would last 47 years until her retirement in July of 2014.
Barb was a member of the Methodist Church, the American Legion Auxiliary and was also a member of the Holdrege Chamber of Commerce for many years.
Besides her parents, Barb was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Don Shafer.
Barb leaves to mourn her passing; her three sons: Stewart Penrod and his wife, Gail of Rainer, WA, Mark Penrod and his wife, Nancy of Jacksonville, Florida, Barry Penrod and his wife, Colleen of Bellevue, Nebraska; 8 grandchildren: Amnart Penrod and his wife, Heather, Julie Braund and her husband, Brian, Lorraine Clark, Pamela Riley and her husband, Eric, Lindsey Bronstadt, Kelsey Penrod, Elliott Penrod, Emilee Penrod; 4 step-grandchildren: Eulalia Cusimano, Bianca Peterson, Tara Liang, Nick Cusimano; 18 great-grandchildren; 5 step great-grandchildren; two sisters: Karol Shafer of Edison, Nebraska and Ivanlyn Pierce and her husband, Paul of Windsor, Colorado; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A memorial book signing will be held on Thursday, April 30, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.
A memorial has been established in Barb's honor and will be designated at a later date.
