Bernita Fern Romjue

Funeral Service for Bernita F. Romjue will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., at Bauer-Torrey & Mach Funeral Home in Alma, Nebraska, with Pastor John McDonald, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in rural Phillips County, Kansas.

Bernita Fern (Mulder) Romjue, 99 years, of Republican City, Nebraska, passed away on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at her home in Republican City. She was born July 7, 1926, to Dan A. and Rosa (Bennett) Mulder. As a child, she raised geese and later, turkeys. She would herd her turkeys around the pasture to find grasshoppers to eat. This is where her love for animals began.

Bernita began her education at Stoney School in rural Kansas, until a new school was built on her family farm, and she then attended it until her lower grades were completed. The family then moved and she received her education from Glendwood School and later, graduated high school from Phillipsburg High School with the class of 1944. Following graduation, she taught in 1 room country schools of Glendwood and Crow.

On April 20, 1946, Bernita was united in marriage to Dale Ray Romjue at the courthouse in Phillipsburg, Kansas; a double wedding with Dale's sister, Alta and Bernita's brother, Kenneth. The couple began farming in the Greenwood Township, in Phillips County, living in what was the Handyville Country Store. She continued teaching for one more year at Englewood School until Dale and Bernita were blessed with two daughters: Jennette Ann in 1948 and Kathryn Kaye in 1951. Bernita stopped teaching to raise her children and to work alongside Dale on the farm, staking and raking hay, and milking the cows. Bernita also raised chickens and had an extensive garden that she would can for winter. In 1954, Jeannette contracted polio and passed away.

Dale and Bernita moved on to the Mulder family farm and continued farming for 38 years, retiring in 2000. Bernita was proud to have continued her life as a farmer's helper and mother. The couple later moved to Republican City in 2003, where she resided until her passing.

Shortly after Jennette's passing, Bernita gave her life to the Lord and was a faithful attendee of the Holiness Churches the rest of her life.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale in 2013; daughter, Jennette; her parents, Dan A. and Rosa Mulder; in-laws, Roy LaMonte and Nina M. (Norton) Romjue; brother, Kenneth Mulder and his wife, Alta; nephew, Paul Ivan Hanes; and sisters-in-law: Della Mae Sell and her husband, Bill; and Norma Lee Hanes and her husband Frances.

Bernita leaves to celebrate her life, her daughter, Kathryn K. Romjue of Republican City; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
