Funeral Services for Betty L. Burgeson will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Holdrege, Nebraska with Pastor Paul Ferrarone and Chaplain DeWane Dow officiating. Interment will be held in the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege.
Betty L. Burgeson, 89 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2015 at the Colonial Villa Good Samaritan Center in Alma, Nebraska. She was born July 29, 1925 in Hazard, Nebraska, the second child of William H. and Beulah F. (Zink) Spangsberg. She grew up in the Methodist Church, but was baptized and became a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in 1952. She attended school in Hazard until her junior year of high school when her family moved to Kearney, Nebraska. She graduated from Kearney High School with the class of 1942 and then attended one year of secretarial training at Kearney State College.
She was employed with Consumer Public Power (now Nebraska Public Power).
On November 30, 1947, she was united in marriage to Clinton P. Burgeson of Holdrege and to this union two daughters were born: Nancy and Janet. The family resided on the farm southwest of Holdrege, where the family of four worked the farm together. Betty and Clinton retired from farming and moved into Holdrege in 1988. Clinton preceded her in death in 1996.
Betty was a long time member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Holdrege, where she served in many capacities through the years. She enjoyed, sewing, crocheting and did many other crafts throughout her life while working on the farm. Her greatest joy was caring for her family, including her grandson, Joshua. She attended many musical and sporting events for all of them.
Besides her parents, and husband, Clinton, she was preceded in death by; her brother, Donald in 2014; son-in-law, Ron Riley; her brothers-in-law: Keith Larson and Robert Burgeson and his wife, Lucille; her sisters-in-law: Vionne Spangsberg and Audrey Burgeson in infancy; and a niece, Carol Ann Burgeson.
Betty leaves to mourn her passing; her two daughters: Nancy Riley of Omaha, Nebraska and Janet Palmer of Holdrege; one grandson, Joshua Palmer and his wife, Megan of Cambridge, Nebraska; two great-grandchildren: Aislyn and Jamison Palmer of Cambridge; her sister, Fay Larson of Lincoln, brother, Glenn "Bud" Spangsberg of Kearney; sister-in-law, Shirley Spangsberg of Grand Junction, Colorado; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 2, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.
A memorial has been established in Betty's honor and will be designated at a later date.
