Funeral Services for Betty J. Carlson will be conducted from the First Presbyterian Church in Holdrege, Nebraska on Thursday, January 17, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Dr. W. Kirwin Stewart, Jr., officiating. Interment will be in the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege.

Betty Jane Carlson, 86 years of age, of Lincoln, Nebraska (formerly of Holdrege, Nebraska) passed away on Sunday, January 13, 2008 at The Ambassador in Lincoln, Nebraska. Betty was born February 21, 1921 at Beatrice, Nebraska, the eldest of two children of Harvey and Rachel (Havard) Crawford. She received her education at Holdrege, graduating from Holdrege High School with the class of 1938.

On October 18, 1941 she was united in marriage to Royle Leonard Carlson and to this union one daughter, Linda was born. The family made their home on the Carlson family farm, north of Funk, Nebraska. Betty enjoyed her life on the farm with her family and many friends. In 1964 they moved into Holdrege and resided at 2116 Spalding Drive. On May 10, 1997 she was preceded in death by her husband, Royle. In 2001, Betty relocated to Lincoln, Nebraska to be near her daughter.

Betty was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Holdrege, a past president of the Presbyterian Women's Group, a member of the Order of Eastern Star and a 60 year member of the American Legion Auxillary. She loved golfing and treasured the many friendship bonds formed through the years at the Holdrege Country Club. She also loved gardening and sewing. Betty enjoyed entertaining at their home for their family and friends.

She leaves to mourn her passing her daughter, Linda Shearman and her husband, Robert C. Shearman of Lincoln; two grandchildren: Carlee Shearman of Lincoln and Robert Kipp Shearman and his wife, Courtney Armentrout of Corvallis, Oregon; two great-granddaughters: Ellery and Tallulah Shearman; three sisters-in-law: Virginia Crawford of Columbus, Indiana, Leona Mae Reissener of Petosky, Michigan and Thelma Clark of Jenks, Oklahoma; special extended family include the daughters of Glen and Carol Nicholson: Pam Bordner, Kelly Boldt and Tricia Conradt; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; brother, H. Dean Crawford; brothers-in-law: Donald L. Carlson, Allen Reissener and Jack Clark and sister-in-law, Viola Johnson and her husband, Bob.

Betty will lie in state at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege on Wednesday, January 16, 2008 from 1:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

Memorials in her memory are requested to be sent to the Holdrege YMCA, the First Presbyterian Church of Holdrege or the Alzheimer's Association.
