Betty Jean Farr, 85 years of age, of Kearney, Nebraska (formerly of Holdrege), passed away on Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at the Mt. Carmel Home in Kearney. Betty Jean was born on July 5, 1925 on a farm north of Holbrook, the third of seven children born to William and Anna (Rupp) Hilker.

Betty was a farm girl who shared in all the work with her parents and siblings. She went to a country school house until 8th grade and then worked full time from that point at home and for other neighbors.

On March 24, 1944, Betty was united in marriage to Eldon Farr in Oberlin, Kansas and to this union two children were born: Larry and Lynn. They farmed and ranched north of Cambridge, Nebraska for a number of years. Eldon and Betty farmed a number of years until they bought and ran the AA Court Motel at Holdrege in the mid 1970s until the death of her husband in 1989. She then resided in an apartment until 2005 when she moved to Kearney. Betty stayed at the Homestead for five years until an illness sent her to Mt. Carmel Home.

Besides her parents and husband, Eldon, Betty was preceded in death by one brother, Eldon Hilker and one sister, Bernice Youngquist.

She leaves to mourn her passing two sons: Larry Farr of Kearney and Lynn Farr and his wife, Sherrie of Arkansas; two grandsons: Troy Farr of Kearney and Jeff Farr of Texas; three great-grandchildren: Andreu, Alex and Abby Farr; one brother, Billy Hilker and his wife, Irene of Axtell, Nebraska; three sisters: Shirley Balcom of Cambridge, Nebraska, Margery Macy of Yankton, South Dakota, Virginia Delmont of Thornton, Colorado; and other relatives and friends.
