Betty Helen Scism, 84 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away after a brief illness on Saturday, October 31, 2015 at Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Betty was born July 21, 1931 in Charlotte, North Carolina, the youngest of five children born to John and Mae (Smith) Baker. She received her education from Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools.

On June 19, 1949, Betty was united in marriage to Vic Scism, and to this union a daughter, Gloria, and two sons: Danny and Adam were born. The family made their home in Charlotte, North Carolina until 1988. At that time, they moved to Holdrege, where Betty was employed at Methodist Memorial Homes for 18 years. She worked in the laundry department with her best friend, Marilyn Lavalleur, until her retirement in 2007.

Betty loved her family with all of her heart, and cared with unwavering love, for her daughter Gloria's every need for the 29 years of her life.

Besides her parents and husband, Vic, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Gloria; two sisters: Mary Merril and Virginia "Ginny" Kruback; two brothers: Louis Baker and Howard Baker.

Betty leaves to celebrate her life; her two sons: Danny Scism and his wife, Shelley of Huntersville, North Carolina, and Adam Scism of Holdrege; five grandchildren: Michelle Scism of Washington D.C., Paul Scism of Huntersville, North Carolina, Kristy Anderson and her husband, Brian of Holdrege, Nikki Scism of Holdrege, CJ Scism and his wife, Emily of Mildenhall, U.K.; six great-grandchildren: Lilie Scism, Trent and Tyler Anderson of Holdrege, and Peyton, Kayden and Cooper Scism of Mildenhall, U.K.; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and many friends throughout her life journey.

She will be remembered as a loving person who tried to help anyone with anything in life if she could. She will be truly missed by her family and friends, but will always be remembered in our hearts.

The family is honoring Betty's wish for cremation and there will be a Celebration of Life Service in the Summer of 2016.

A memorial has been established in Betty's honor and will be designated at a later date.
