Funeral Services for Betty L. Swanson will be held on Thursday, February 1, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Holdrege, Nebraska, with Reverend Kenton Birtell officiating. Interment will follow at Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege.
Betty Lou Swanson, 93 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Holdrege Memorial Homes in Holdrege. Betty was born March 22, 1924, in Axtell, Nebraska, the fifth of nine children born to Elihu and Ethel May (Purdy) Hubbard. She attended Axtell Public and Holdrege Public Schools.
On October 1, 1938, she was united in marriage to Francis Edward Swanson in Minden, Nebraska, and to this union four children were born: Clyde, Bruce, Janice and Kathy. The family made their home in Holdrege. Betty focused her efforts on raising her family.
In later years, Betty worked for Christian Homes as a Dietary Aid and later in the laundry department. Betty was a member of the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church and was a Bluebird Leader for many years. She also enjoyed gardening, needlework, baking and in later years, spending time with her children and grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and step-father, Albert Nelson; Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Francis in 1999; a daughter, Linda Lou Swanson at birth; son, Bruce Swanson in 2017; sisters: Eunice Hubbard at birth, Laura Hubbard, Iantha (John) Journey and Flossie (Keith) Green; brother: Don (Dorothy) Hubbard; brothers-in-law, Lloyd Steinbrink, William Swanson and Robert (Mae) Swanson and sisters-in-law, Vera Hubbard, Mae Paxton, Florence Swanson, and Fern Hellekson.
Survivors include, her three children: Clyde Swanson of Holdrege, Janice Erickson and her husband, Ed of Holdrege and Kathy Boyer and her husband, Dave of Norfolk, Nebraska; daughter-in-law, Alice Ann Swanson of rural Holdrege; 13 grandchildren: Lisa, Beth, Ann, Amy, Darrin, Maria, Kelly, Greg, Kara, Jodi, Ellie, Casey and Hannah; 30 great-grandchildren; brother, Ford Hubbard of Elm Creek, Nebraska; sister, June Steinbrink of Holdrege; half-brother, Delano Nelson of Holdrege; sister-in-law, Myrtle Swanson of Denver, Colorado; and other relatives and many friends.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.
A memorial has been established in Betty's honor and kindly suggested to Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church.
