Memorial Services for Beverly D. Stark will be conducted from the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege, Nebraska on Monday, January 28, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Connie Karr, officiating. Inurnment will be in the Ft. McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell, Nebraska at 3:00 p.m.
Beverly Darlene Stark, 74 years of age, of Lexington, Nebraska (formerly of Bertrand and Loomis, Nebraska) passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska. Beverly was born February 11, 1933, west of Oconto in Custer County, Nebraska, the fourth of nine children of Gerald and Velma (Garringer) Horn. She received her primary education in Custer County and then attended Lexington High School, graduating with the class of 1951. She then pursued higher education at Kearney State College. Beverly then taught school in Custer, Dawson and Phelps Counties for three years.
On November 3, 1952 she was united in marriage to Darrel "Dee" Stark and to this union six children were born: Darla, Daniel, Darrie, Dawn, Della and Dora. The family made their home north of Loomis, where Dee fed cattle and farmed until 1976. Beverly drove school bus for the Loomis Public School for many years. Beverly and Dee treasured the bonds formed through the years caring for several foster children. On February 6, 2006 she was preceded in death by her husband, Dee.
Beverly was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church and served as Sunday School Superintendent for many years, was a 4-H leader when the children were young, member of the American Legion Auxiliary and enjoyed volunteering at the Bertrand Nursing Home. She enjoyed embroidering, jigsaw puzzles and word find puzzles. Family was first and foremost in Beverly's life, she loved attending her grandchildren's activities and enjoyed family get-togethers.
She leaves to mourn her passing her six children: Darla Cohagan and her husband, Edwin of Gothenburg, Daniel Stark and his wife, Lisa of Plainview, Nebraska, Darrie Streeter and her husband, Rick of Holdrege, Dawn Glinsmann of Kearney, Della Ehlers and her husband, David of Smithfield, Nebraska and Dora Tappan and her husband, Walter of Odessa, Nebraska; 13 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Eunice Shepard of North Platte, Nebraska and Wanda Howell of Cozad, Nebraska; four brothers: Glenn Horn of Lexington, Ronald Horn and his wife, Jean of California, Gary Horn and his wife, Kathy of Elwood, Nebraska and Clifton Horn and his wife, Karen of Lexington; sister-in-law, Shirley Stombaugh and her husband, Glenn of Eustis, Nebraska; brothers-in-law: John Stark and his wife, Doris of Holdrege and Jerry Stark and his wife, Betty of Hays, Kansas; sister-in-law, Kathryn Shield of Kearney; and a host of nieces,
nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Tyler Ehlers; son-in-law, Bob Glinsmann; one sister, Phyllis Shepard and her husband, Eldred, one brother, Dwight Horn; brothers-in-law: Ronald Howell and Ike Shepard; sister-in-law, Betty Horn.
Beverly will lie in state at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege on Sunday, January 27, 2008 from 1:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Following the visitation, the family is honoring Beverly's wish for cremation.
A memorial has been established in her memory and will be designated at a later time.
