Memorial Services for Billie Ford will be conducted from the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska on Wednesday, October 10, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Virginia Fleharty, officiating. Private family inurnment will be held at a later date.
Willie Rose "Billie" Ford, 81 years of age, of Atlanta, Nebraska, passed away on Thursday, October 4, 2007 at the Bertrand Nursing Home in Bertrand, Nebraska. Billie was born August 19, 1926 at Greenville, Mississippi, the youngest of eight children of Mitchel Warren and Ethel (Poore) McCain. Billie received her education from Cleavland, Miss., graduating from Cleavland High School with the class of 1944.
On May 30, 1949 she was united in marriage to Martin Fredrick Ford at Phillipsburg, Kansas and to this union three children were born: Martin Fredrick, Dwight Warren and Jeannette. The family made their home in Atlanta, Nebraska and later moved to Morrison, Colorado. In the mid 1960's, the family returned home to Nebraska and resided at Oxford, where Billie and Marty owned and operated a Gambles Store for several years. After the business suffered a fire, they returned to Colorado until 1978. In 1978, they purchased an acreage southwest of Atlanta. Besides assisting with the animals on the farm, Billie was also employed at Becton-Dickinson at Holdrege for several years.
Billie enjoyed upholstery, woodworking, cooking and spending time with her family.
She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, Marty of Atlanta; two sons: Fred Ford and his wife, Stella of Jacksonville, Florida and Dwight Ford and his wife, Jeanne of Arapahoe, Nebraska; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Jeannette Morrow; four sisters: Evelyn, Omera, Martha and Dorothy; and three brothers: Mitchell, Paul and Halbert.
There will be no visitation, the family is honoring Billie's wish for cremation.
A memorial has been established in her memory.
