Memorial Services for Bonnie Samuelson will be conducted from the Moses Hill Evangelical Covenant Church in rural Loomis, Nebraska on Monday, December 22, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Craig Roberts, Mr. Wayne Carlson and Chaplain DeWane Dow officiating. Private family interment will be in the Moses Hill Cemetery in Phelps County prior to the services.

LaVon Emma "Bonnie" Samuelson, 90 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska (formerly of rural Bertrand, Nebraska) passed away on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at the Christian Homes Care Community at Holdrege. Bonnie was born October 15, 1924 on the family farm northeast of Loomis, in Phelps County, the fifth of eight children born to Roy E. and Hanna R. (Hadeen) Johnson. She received her primary education from the Moses Hill District #14 school in Phelps County and then graduated from Holdrege High School with the class of 1943.

Following her education, Bonnie was employed at the Brewster Hospital in food service. On March 12, 1944 she was united in marriage to Ellsworth LaVern "E.L." Samuelson at the Westmark Church Parsonage and to this union five children were born: Avis, Lyle, Gary, Kent and Gail.  The family made their home on the family farm northeast of Bertrand in Phelps County, where they engaged in custom haying, ensilage, raised Angus Cows and milked cows as well.  Bonnie supported E.L. in the farming operation and at the same time, focused on raising their children.  The couple retired from farming in 2000 and in later years made their home at Chrisoma West – Assisted Living.  On March 29, 2011 she was preceded in death by her husband, E.L.

Through the years, the couple attended the Westmark Evangelical Free Church and the Moses Hill Evangelical Covenant Church.  At Moses Hill, Bonnie also enjoyed being active with the Covenant Women for many years.  They enjoyed their time dancing, playing cards with their family and friends and Bonnie was also an avid quilter.  She was an excellent cook and particularly well known for her "Bonnie Cake."

Besides her parents, and husband, E.L., she was preceded in death by two grandchildren: Chad Samuelson and Angela Evans; two sisters: Norma Ryden and her husband, Wesley and Sadie Kimberling; three brothers: Kermit Johnson and his wife, Elaine, Delwin Johnson and his wife, Grace, and one brother in infancy; five brothers-in-law: Warren Jacobson, Darell Smith, Nylise Samuelson and his wife, Frances, Dellman Samuelson and his wife, Dorothy and Wymore Samuelson at the age of 10; and sister-in-law, Zeadelle Matson and her husband, Thor.

Bonnie leaves to mourn her passing; her five children: Avis Nelson and her husband, Marvin of Loomis, Lyle Samuelson and his wife, Marsha of Bertrand, Gary Samuelson of Atlanta, Nebraska, Kent Samuelson and his wife, Diane of Loomis and Gail Johnson and her husband, Steven of Wilcox, Nebraska; 17 grandchildren:  Christine Nelson, Cindy (Ted) Collin, LaVern (Traci) Nelson, Lona (Leonard) Milks, Debbie (Brian) Komenda, Becki VanPelt, Joye Samuelson, Penny Samuelson, Wanda (Wade) Stratman, Travis (Danielle) Samuelson, Tina Seyler, Andy (Henny) Samuelson, Adam (Jeni) Samuelson, Amy (Sean) Rademaker, Jeremiah (Heather) Johnson, Jeffrey (Shaina) Johnson, and Jennifer (Geoffrey) Beemer; 38 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; two sisters: Merna Smith and Betty Jacobson both of Holdrege; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 21, 2014 from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.

A memorial has been established in Bonnie's honor and will be designated at a later date.
