Funeral Services for Mr. Brooke I. Peterson will be held on Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Wilcox, Nebraska with Pastor Melvin Mertens officiating. Interment will be held in the Freewater Cemetery in rural Harlan County, Nebraska.

Brooke Peterson, 36, passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at the Inova Alexandria Hospital, following complications from a heart valve surgery in Alexandria, Virginia. Brooke was born May 13, 1979 at Kearney, Nebraska, the son of Raymond "Daniel" and Valerie Ann (Woollen) Peterson. He was baptized and confirmed at the St. John's Lutheran Church. Brooke received his education from Wilcox Public School System, graduating from Wilcox High School with the class of 1997. He was honored to be selected as Homecoming King by his peers. He then pursued higher education at the University of Nebraska at Kearney, Nebraska, where he graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Organizational Communication.

Following his education, Brooke began to make his home in Lincoln, Nebraska, where he pursued his life-long passion of a career in Data Administration. He was truly talented with computer applications and programming. For the past several years, Brooke had been residing in Stafford, Virginia, where he continued his career until his passing.

He was the partner of Ms. Pippi Van Slooten. They shared nine years together. During those years, some of his enjoyable times were spent painting wildlife and birds, walking in the park with Pippi, playing board and online games, and reading books for personal and spiritual growth. Brooke was a technical writer for years and enjoyed working for Bosch while he was in Nebraska. He was an extremely caring and loving person who will be missed by all who knew him. His sense of humor was always admired by his family and friends. He was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church in Wilcox.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents: Bernhard and Christen Peterson; uncle, Cecil Dudley; and aunt, Virginia Peterson.

Brooke leaves to celebrate his life; his father, Dan Peterson of Holdrege; his mother, Valerie Ann Peterson of rural Wilcox; maternal grandparents: Nordon and Mary Ann Woollen of rural Wilcox; his partner, Pippi Van Slooten of Stafford, VA; aunts and uncles: Angela Selgren (Erick) of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Shawn Woollen (Cindy) of rural Wilcox, George Peterson (Linda) of Funk, Nebraska, Lawrence Peterson (Gloria) of Phoenix, Arizona, Doris Waggoner (Don) of Huntley, Nebraska, Eleanor Dudley of Burns, Tennessee, Don Peterson (Chris) of North Bend, Nebraska, and Kenny Peterson (Kathy) of Holdrege; and a host of cousins, other relatives and many friends.

Visitation will be held on Monday, August 24, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the Bauer-Torrey & Mach Funeral Home in Wilcox.

A memorial has been established in Brooke's honor and kindly suggested to the St. John's Lutheran Church in Wilcox.
