Memorial Services for Bruce W. Gustafson will be conducted from Holcomb Evangelical Free Church in rural Phelps County, Nebraska on Thursday, September 20, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Todd Marcy, officiating. Private family interment will be in the Moses Hill Cemetery in Phelps County prior to the memorial service.
Bruce Wayne Gustafson, 79 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska, passed away on Monday, September 17, 2007 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Bruce was born February 6, 1928 at Holdrege, the second of three children of Henry and Olga (Johnson) Gustafson. Bruce was baptized and confirmed at the Holcomb Evangelical Free Church. He received his primary education in rural Phelps County and graduated from Holdrege High School with the class of 1945. Following his education, Bruce engaged in farming with his father.
On June 10, 1951, Bruce was united in marriage to Joan Arlene Abbott and to this union two sons were born: Del and Tim. They made their home north of Holdrege, where they farmed until retirement. On February 28, 2002 he was preceded in death by his wife, Joan.
Bruce was a member of the Holcomb Evangelical Free Church. He loved his Lord Jesus Christ and his church very much. He enjoyed being active in the community, Bruce was a past member of the Board of Directors of the Nebraska Public Power District, serving three terms. He was an avid reader, enjoyed hunting and fishing, sporting events (especially Nebraska Football) and loved spending time with his family.
He leaves to mourn his passing his two sons: Del Gustafson and his wife, Eva of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Tim Gustafson and his wife, Kathy of Holdrege; seven grandchildren: Cole Gustafson of Boston and Seth, Dane and Leif Gustafson of Tulsa and Laura, Emily and Jenna Gustafson of Holdrege; brother-in-law, Robert Hinrichs of Inland, Nebraska and one niece, two nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides his wife, Bruce was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Dell Gustafson and one sister, Shirley Hinrichs.
There will be no public visitation. The family is honoring Bruce's wish for a closed casket.
A memorial has been established in his memory and suggested to the Holcomb Evangelical Free Church.
