Funeral Services for Bruce Metzger will be held on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bauer-Torrey & Mach Funeral Home in Alma, Nebraska with Jane Blum, CLM officiating.  Interment will follow at the Alma Cemetery in Alma with Military Honors provided by the Fay Cady American Legion Post #118 in conjunction with the United States Army Military Honors Team.

Bruce D. Metzger, 88 years of age, of Alma, Nebraska, passed away on Sunday, October 11, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Society Colonial Villa in Alma.  Bruce was born May 31, 1927, in Alma the second of three sons born to George V. and LaVerne (Workman) Metzger.  He received his education from Alma High School.  Bruce was a third generation plumber.  He started helping his grand-dad when he was only 13 years old.

Bruce was inducted into the U.S. Army and served until he was honorably discharged. After returning home, Bruce continued working for the family plumbing business.  On September 19, 1946, he was united in marriage to Cleora Secrest at the Methodist parsonage in Smith Center, Kansas.  To this union four children were born:  John, Pam, Rodney, and Stephen.  The family made their home in Alma.

Bruce enjoyed golfing.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Stephen Metzger, in infancy and John Metzger in 2007; wife, Cleora Metzger in 2009; brothers:  Bob Metzger and wife, Gloria and Roger Metzger.

Bruce leaves to celebrate his life: a daughter, Pam Metzger of Alma; son, Rodney Metzger of Alma; daughter-in-law, Katherine Metzger of Lexington;  four grandchildren:  Tim Metzger of Norfolk, Virginia, Curt Metzger of Lexington, Nebraska, Becky Wolfe and her husband, Brad of Alma and Kali Metzger of Holdrege, Nebraska; three great-grandchildren; along with a many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 from 4:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m.-7:30 p.m. at the Bauer-Torrey & Mach Funeral Home in Alma.

A memorial has been established in Bruce's honor and will be designated at a later date.
