Byron "Lowell" Morse

Byron "Lowell" Morse, 93 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska, passed away on Wednesday, May 2, 2007 at the Holdrege Memorial Homes. Memorial Services will be held at a later date.

Byron "Lowell" Morse was born October 18, 1913 on the family farm six miles west of Wilcox in Phelps County, Nebraska, the third of four children of Ira Roy and Anna Lena (Peterson) Morse. He received his primary education in rural Phelps County and then graduated from Holdrege High School. He then pursued higher education at Union College in Lincoln, Nebraska. Following his education, Lowell then returned home to the family farm near Wilcox. From 1946 – 1947, Lowell resided in San Pedro, California with his sister, Lucille Richardson where he worked for Shell Oil Company as an assistant manager of a filling station.

On February 25, 1948 he was united in marriage to Ira "Jessie" Cowan and to this union three children were born: Vernette, Erroll and Myrna. The family made their home on a farm west of Wilcox, where Lowell engaged in farming until his retirement in 2002 and turned the farming operation over to his son, Erroll. Following his retirement, Lowell and Jessie moved into Holdrege.

He was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Holdrege, where he served in many capacities. Lowell enjoyed tending to his garden and spending time with his family. In his later years, he and Jessie enjoyed traveling.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Jessie of Holdrege; one son, Erroll Morse of Holdrege; two daughters: Vernette Houtchens and her husband, Larry of Cheyenne, Wyoming and Myrna Birth and her husband, Randy of Holdrege; three grandchildren: Tami Martindale and her husband, Keith of Michigan, Laura Fiedler and her husband, Michael of Lincoln and Randy Birth, Jr. and his wife, Marisol of Lincoln; two great-grandchildren: Blaine and Kristen Martindale; one sister, Lucille Richardson of Holdrege; sister-in-law, Florence Morse of Bertrand, Nebraska; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Roy Morse and his wife, Irene and Glenn Morse; and brother-in-law, Charles Richardson.

There will be no visitation, the family has chosen cremation.

A memorial has been established in his memory.
