A Private Family Service and Inurnment for C. Dwight Peterson will be held at a later date.
Carroll "Dwight" Peterson, 85 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska passed away on Sunday, October 4, 2020, at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Dwight was born on May 16, 1935, on the family farm, north of Holdrege, in Phelps County, Nebraska, the eldest of two children to Carroll Oliver and Leola (Clark) Peterson. He received his primary education from a country school near his home and then attended and graduated from Holdrege High School with the class of 1953.
On December 22, 1957, Dwight was united in marriage to Cyrildine L. "Deno" Fritz and to this union, three children were born: Teri Lea, Sheri Kay, and Donald Gene. The family made their home in Holdrege, where Dwight was employed with Holdrege Public Schools as a maintenance man. He later worked as a maintenance man at Holdrege Memorial Homes until his full retirement. Dwight and Deno opened and shared their house with many individuals who needed a place to call "HOME". They were all treated and loved as their own children. The couple also enjoyed attending dances together.
Dwight enjoyed wood working, sprint car racing, welding, and driving his cars fast! Dwight was a people person; due to his loss of sight, he enjoyed conversing with others and had the ability to recognize voices, even from many years prior. He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Free Church.
Dwight was preceded in death by: his parents; one daughter, Teri Lea, as a toddler; granddaughter, Martika Johnson; and his wife, Deno Peterson.
Dwight is survived by: his daughter, Sheri Evans of Holdrege; his son, Don Peterson of Holdrege; four grandchildren: Shawn Whetstine; Christina Whetstine; Travis Whetstine; and Kayla Barrow; 18 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; his sister, Sharon Anderson of rural Elm Creek, Nebraska; adopted daughter, Tiffany Warning and her daughter, Lindsay; and many other relatives and friends.
A private visitation was held. The family is honoring Dwight's wish for cremation.
