Mass of Christian Burial Service for Carl L. Fischbach will be conducted from the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Orleans, Nebraska on Monday, August 18, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. with Father John Birkel, officiating. Interment will be in the Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery at Orleans.
Carl Leo Fischbach, 87 years of age, of Kearney, Nebraska, passed away on Tuesday, August 12, 2008 at the Harlan County Health Systems in Alma, Nebraska.
Carl was born August 11, 1921 on the family farm south of Orleans in Harlan County, Nebraska, the tenth of eleven children of George and Cecelia (Willy) Fischbach. Carl received his primary education from St. Mary's Catholic School and then graduated from Orleans High School. Following his education, Carl engaged in farming with the family south of Orleans. On August 14, 1970 he was united in marriage to Euella McDonald at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Orleans. With this union, Carl lovingly accepted Euella's children as his own. The family made their home on the farm south of Orleans until their retirement. In 1984, Carl and Euella moved to Kearney. While in Orleans and following their move to Kearney, Carl enjoyed the friendship bonds formed being a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. James Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed bowling, tending to his garden, horse racing and was an avid Husker fan. On October 21, 2006 he was preceded in death by his wife, Euella.
Carl leaves to mourn his passing his step-children: Jerry McDonald and his wife, Shirley of Alma, Joanne Schnurr of St. Petersburg, Florida, Jeanne Smith and her husband, Robert of Omaha, Nebraska, Jim McDonald of Lincoln, Nebraska, Joe McDonald and his special friend, Camille Wells of Naponee, Nebraska; daughter, Julie Schwartz and her husband, Rick of Hastings, Nebraska; 19 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one brother, Joe Fischbach and his wife, Mary Kay of Waterloo, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Mary Beth Fischbach of Lincoln and Gertrude Fischbach of Kearney; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides his wife, Euella he was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters; four brothers.
Carl will lie in state at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Orleans on Sunday, August 17, 2008 from 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Rosary will be held on Sunday, evening at 7:00 p.m. at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Orleans.
A memorial has been established in his memory and designated at a later date.
