Carol was raised in the sand hills of Rock and Keya Paha counties and graduated from Rock County High School in Bassett, where she received Teachers Normal Training. At barely 17 years old, she began teaching in rural schools. In her early retirement years, she continued to do Consulting and Workshops for several schools and was also the Curriculum Coordinator, for McCook Public Schools.
On July 28, 1962, she married Merlyn Haight and this union was blessed with two children: Tami and Merlyn, II.
Carol accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, as a senior in high school. She began serving her local church and continued to serve the youth, to young marrieds, the Over 55 Club or as the District Missions Director, in the many communities that she lived in across Nebraska. Whether for church, friends or family, Carol was always eager to decorate, teach, entertain and encourage those who gathered. She loved and cared for her family well.
After Merlyn's death in 1996, Carol was married to George Huff in 2001. They made their home in McCook.
