A memorial service for Mr. Carol Ray Pouk will be held on Monday, November 27, 2023, at 2:30 p.m. at the Holdrege Methodist Church with Pastor George Probasco and Pastor Murray Jones officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege, with Military Honors provided by the Martin-Horn American Legion #66 in conjunction with the United States Army National Guard Honors Team.
Mr. Carol Ray Pouk, 86 years of age, of Holdrege, died on Sunday, November 19, 2023, at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Carol was born on April 17, 1937, in the Rockfalls Township in Phelps County, Nebraska, one of seven children born to John Lewis and Ella Henrietta Wilhelmina (Hinze) Pouk. Carol was baptized on May 23, 1937 at the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Holdrege. He attended Atlanta and Mascot Schools then in 1952 transferred to Holdrege High School and graduated with the class of 1954.
On December 7, 1960, Carol was inducted into the United States Army. He served in Germany and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged on December 4, 1962 and served four years of reserves until 1966.
Carol married Donna June Massey on May 22, 1965. To this union two children were born: Rogene Lynn Pouk; and Daniel Ray Pouk. On November 8, 1985, Carol was married to Mary Skiles Shackleton.
Carol worked for Phillips 66 Station as an attendant and mechanic; Sawyers Sand and Gravel and then in 1968, he began working Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District until his retirement in 2000. After his retirement he enjoyed harvesting with Floyd and Robert Massey.
Carol's hobbies included classic cars, motorcycles, mechanics, repairing or tinkering with mowers. He enjoyed traveling to Colorado on his motorcycle. He was a member of the Cushman Scooter Club. Always enjoyed being around his children, and step-children and grandchildren.
Carol was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege; and a member of Eagles Club. Enjoyed the music and meals served at the Eagles Club.
Carol was proceeded in death by his father, John Lewis Pouk in 1953; his mother, Ella Henrietta Wilhelmina Pouk in 1994; his brothers: Lloyd Pouk, Rodney Pouk, Evald Pouk, and Eldon Pouk; his sister Marlene Pouk; and a sister-in-law, Ann Pouk
Carol is survived by his wife, Mary Pouk of Holdrege; daughter, Rogene (Brent) Hinrichs of Hildreth, Nebraska; his son, Daniel Pouk of Appleton, Wisconsin; his grandchildren: Michaela (Jared) Holen of Bertrand, Nebraska; Caitlin (Brandon) Nichols of Bridgeport, Nebraska; and Matthew (Allison) Hinrichs of Hildreth; granddaughters: Miley and Lily Holen of Bertrand; brother, Dennis Pouk of Holdrege; and sister-in-law, Carol Pouk of Holdrege; step-children: George (Billie) Shackleton of Cozad, Nebraska; Valorie (Duane) Cashman of Gothenburg, Nebraska; Sina Jo (Alvin) Werkmeister of Maywood, Nebraska; and Ross (Peggy) Shackleton of Berthoud, Colorado; Many nephews, nieces, step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends
There will not be a visitation or viewing. The family has honored his wish for cremation.
A memorial has been established in Carol's honor and kindly suggested to the family for future designation.
