Carolyn Kay Workman, 73 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Thursday, January 1, 2015 at the CHI Health Good Samaritan in Kearney, Nebraska. Carolyn was born May 17, 1941 in Norfolk, Nebraska, the eldest of four children born to Peter and Lillian (Reeg) Jensen. She received her education from Pierce, Nebraska, graduating from Pierce High School with the class of 1959.
Following her education, she began working at Hested's Five and Dime in Norfolk. While in Norfolk, she met Hal Dean Workman and they were united in marriage on August 10, 1962 in Yankton, South Dakota. To this union six children were born: Michael, Gerald, twins: Debra and Sandra, Jennifer and Matthew. The family made their home in Grand Island, Nebraska for a brief time before moving to Holdrege, where she continued to work at Hested's. Shortly after they moved to a farm outside of Funk, Nebraska, where they spent the next 25 years. Carolyn was then employed by the Holdrege Public School System in the cafeteria for several years. She was also employed by Bub's Bottles and C & D Liquor for many years. While living on the farm, she developed a love of gardening and enjoying the outdoors. Carolyn enjoyed cooking, collecting recipe cards, playing Bingo, and caring for her dog, Mollie. Most of all she loved her family and adored her grandson, Lucas. She always enjoyed attending her children's activities, and was always their biggest fan.
Despite her age, she loved being connected with others through social media and was always ready for a game of Words With Friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hal on June 17, 2009.
Carolyn leaves to mourn her passing; her two sons: Mike Workman and his wife, Sheri of Holdrege, Matt Workman and his wife, Aspen of Hastings, Nebraska; three daughters: Deb and Sandy Workman both of Holdrege and Jennifer Calkins and her husband, Patrick of Lincoln, Nebraska; one special grandson, Lucas Workman of Hastings; one brother, Alden Jensen of Lincoln; one sister, Judy Farr and her husband, Gene of Norfolk; four sisters-in-law: Betty Schacht of Hooper, Nebraska, Linda Workman of Syracuse, Nebraska, Patricia Workman of Beatrice, Nebraska, Nancy Workman of Lincoln; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
