Carrie Ann Nelson, 66 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska, passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2026, following a courageous seven-year battle with breast cancer, surrounded by her family at her home in Holdrege.

Carrie was born on March 9, 1960, in McCook, Nebraska, second of three children born to Kent and Jeannette (Larington) Bennett.  She received her education from Holdrege Public Schools, graduating from Holdrege High School, with the class of 1979.  During her high school years, she participated with Pep Club, volleyball, softball and Choir.

Carrie was married to Jeff Hueftle and they were blessed with a son, Jeremy.  They would later divorce.

She was then married to Bob Peterson and they were blessed with a son, Brett.  Bob preceded her in death in 1990.

On January 16, 1997, she was united in marriage to Mark Nelson.

She will be remembered as a loving and caring woman, with a great sense of humor but was very stubborn and strong willed.  Carrie was always happy and smiling.  Her family was THE most important thing to her, especially her sons and granddaughter, Haylee.  Carrie loved the color purple, and talking about the shows she was currently watching and the actors in those shows.

In her younger years, Carrie enjoyed being a parent volunteer for the Washington DC trip and was an avid bowler, attending the State Bowling tournament for over 20 years in a row.  Carrie was a member of the HVFD Auxiliary and enjoyed watching Husker Football and KC Chiefs Football.

Carrie was preceded in death by: her parents:  Kent Bennett; and Jeannette Henning; her husband, Bob Peterson in 1990; a step-great-grandson, Kade Richards; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Dorothy Peterson and husband, Duane; a daughter-in-law, Tina Peterson in 2026; father-in-law, Dale Nelson; and two uncles:  Gordon Bennett, and Jerry Bennett.

Carrie leaves to celebrate her life; her husband, Mark Nelson of Holdrege; her children: Jeremy Hueftle and his wife, Larissa of Holdrege; and Brett Peterson of Holdrege; step-son, Ethan Nelson of Sumner, Nebraska; one granddaughter, Haylee (Hueftle) Williamson and her husband, Shane of Holdrege; step-grandchildren:  Kassidy Pinkal (Heidi Buettner) of Holdrege; Dee Pinkal (Andrew Richards) of Lincoln, Nebraska; and Austin, Elise and Ellison Billeter; one step-great-grandson, Kooper Pinkal; her siblings: brother, Warren Bennett of Lincoln, Nebraska; and sister, and very best friend, Jeanne Bennett of Holdrege; a sister-in-law, Cindy Lambert and her husband, Keith of Sundance, Wyoming; along with six nieces, and seven nephews, and extended family members.
