Private Memorial Graveside Services for Catherine S. Norton were held at the Highland Cemetery, Bertrand, Nebraska.
On Friday, February 23, 2018, Catherine Spring Norton, age 98, of Lincoln, Nebraska passed away of natural causes in Lincoln. Ms. Norton was born on January 13, 1920, in Bertrand, to the late Samuel Clarence and Pansy Hill Spring.
In addition to serving with the United States Navy Waves, she studied at Colorado State College of Education, eventually earning her degree in anthropology later in life from American University in Washington D.C. in 1970.
The bulk of her life's work centered around publishing; from writing for her college newspaper, to writing and helping publish, The Station Paper in Pensacola, to working on the research staff of, Changing Times and finally with The Bertrand Herald, in her retirement.
A lifelong student of words, books, nutrition, wildlife, plants and conservation, Catherine never missed an opportunity to marvel at the world around her. Known for clipping recipes and articles she knew her friends and family would enjoy, she took care and attention in corresponding with those she loved.
She was predeceased by; her former husband, Mahlon Curtis Norton of Washington D.C.; a brother that died in infancy, Keith; her brother, Ralph; and her sister, Jean.
Ms. Norton is survived by; her beloved sons: Paul Curtis Norton and Mitchell Hargraves Norton, both of Lincoln; three grandchildren: Jessica Dahlgren of Lincoln, Monica Ledbetter and her husband, Curtis of Lincoln, and Justin High of Omaha, Nebraska; and three great-grandchildren: Laney Catherine Ledbetter and Emerson and Harper High.
In lieu of a memorial service or remembrances, Catherine requested memorial contributions be made in her memory to: The Sierra Club or by subscribing to your local newspaper.
