Cathleen "Cathy" Haussermann

A memorial service for Cathleen S. Haussermann will be held on Thursday, July 20, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska with Pastor Daren Popple officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Immanuel Cemetery near Bertrand.

Cathleen Sue (Johnson) Haussermann, 64 years of age, of Holdrege, departed this world on Sunday, July 9, 2023, at her home in Holdrege. Cathy was born November 5, 1958, to Maynard JE and Gladys M. (Hansen) Johnson. She was born in the early morning hours at the Peterson Hospital on 5th and East Ave in Holdrege. It just happened to be during a major building fire in downtown Holdrege. Therefore, electricity to the downtown area had been cut off so she was born by candlelight. Just as she took her first breath, it was said the candle shrunk and fell into the bottle, so the only light in the room went out.

She received her education from Holdrege Public Schools and then graduated from Holdrege High School, with the class of 1977. She pursued higher education at the College of Business in Grand Island, Nebraska, and received her associate's degree in Business. Cathy made a career out of bookkeeping for numerous businesses in central Nebraska.

Cathy had no fear and was always adventurous. It was nothing to find her on the roof of the house when she was just a toddler. She enjoyed helping her dad with carpentry projects. Even as an adult, she was always tackling some project!

Cathy did not like being alone and surrounded herself with others. Over the years, she took in many foster children, loved them all as her own, and continued caring for them even as adults. Cathy adopted one of her foster children, Dena, and later, helped raise her grandchildren.

She was generous to a fault and was often taken advantage of, she didn't see it and would continue to help anyone she could.

Cathy loved gardening and many reaped the rewards of her labor.

On February 25, 2000, Cathy married the love of her life, Donald P Haussermann. He proceeded her in death in 2005.

Cathy was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; her father, Maynard; her daughter, Dena Smith; maternal and paternal grandparents; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Cathy is survived by her mother, Gladys Johnson; granddaughter, Michelle Noel; sister, Colleen Jameson (Fred Owens); four step-children: Ashley; Jon; Jorden; and Desirae; two nieces: Staci (Brad) Dietz; Alyssa (Jacob) Conford; 10 great nieces and nephews; two great, great nieces; along with a host of other relatives, and friends.

There will not be a visitation or memorial book signing.

A memorial has been established in Cathy's honor, and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
