Mass of Christian Burial for Cecil R. Dietz will be held on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Orleans, Nebraska with Father Jamie Hottovy officiating. Rosary will be held on Friday at 7:00 p.m. at the church. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Orleans.


Cecil Ray Dietz, 85 years of age, of Orleans, passed away on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at the Kearney Regional Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska. Cecil was born September 13, 1930, southwest of Orleans, in Harlan County, Nebraska, the third of four children born to Wilhelm "Bill" Martin Dietz and Bernice (Richardson) Dietz. He received his primary education at District 5 School in Harlan County until the 8th grade, and then began farming with his parents.

Cecil served in the Reserve Capacity of the National Guard for three years.


On June 4, 1953 Cecil was united in marriage to Ellen "Kathleen" Graff at St. Mary's Catholic Church. To this union four daughters were born: Nancy, Janet, Cindy and Kim. The family made their home in Orleans where Cecil continued to farm and raise livestock.

Cecil enjoyed fishing, hunting with his sons-in-law and grandsons and farming, up until his death. He loved visiting with family and friends. He and Kathleen enjoyed square dancing and old time barn dancing and playing cards.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Cecil leaves to celebrate his life: his wife of 62 years, Kathleen of Orleans; four daughters: Nancy Glenn and her husband, Don of Elizabeth, Colorado; Janet Muthart and her husband, Jim of Kearney; Cindy Ellis of Holdrege, Nebraska; Kim Erickson and her husband, Darryl of Cheyenne, Wyoming; eight grandchildren: Erik Glenn and his wife, Shelby of Parker, Colorado, Thomas Glenn and his wife, Meg of Krakow, Poland, Nathan Muthart of Eagle, Colorado, Nicholas Muthart of Vero Beach, Florida, Tanner Ellis and his wife, Barbara of Kearney, Hunter Ellis of Daytona Beach, Florida, Samantha and Elizabeth Erickson of Cheyenne; great-grandson, Theodore Glenn; brother Billy Dietz and his wife Betty, of Orleans; sister, Agatha Schultz of Orleans; and sister, Shirley Aten of Crofton, Maryland; along with numerous relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 4, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with the family greeting from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Orleans, Nebraska.

A memorial has been established in Cecil's memory to St. Mary's Catholic Church.
